충남 천안시가 지역 운수종사자들의 숙원이었던 ‘운전적성정밀검사장’을 신설하고 본격적인 운영에 들어갔다. 이에 따라 그동안 검사를 받기 위해 대전이나 청주까지 이동해야 했던 운수종사자들의 불편이 해소될 전망이다.
천안시는 3일 동남구 삼룡4길 천안시택시종합복지쉼터 2층에 검사장을 마련하고 업무를 시작했다고 밝혔다. 검사장은 매주 금요일 주 1회 운영되며, 신규 취업을 위한 검사는 물론 사고 발생 시 받는 특별검사와 65세 이상 고령 운전자를 위한 자격유지검사 등을 일괄 수행한다.
운전적성정밀검사는 운전자의 신체적·심리적 결함 요인을 과학적으로 평가해 사고를 예방하는 법정 필수 절차다. 특히 고령 운전자의 안전 운행 가능 여부를 판별하는 자격유지검사의 중요성이 커지는 가운데, 이번 검사장 신설은 지역 내 5,700여 명에 달하는 운수종사자들에게 큰 환영을 받고 있다.
이번 시설은 천안시가 한국교통안전공단에 쉼터 내 135㎡ 규모의 공간을 5년간 무상으로 제공하면서 성사됐다. 시는 이번 검사장 운영으로 종사자들의 이동 시간과 교통비 등 연간 약 5억 7,000만 원 상당의 경제적 비용이 절감될 것으로 분석했다.
