[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 김성희 신임 부산경찰청장이 6일 공식 취임하며 부산 치안 책임자로서 첫 임기를 시작했다.
김 청장은 이날 오후 부산경찰 추모공간을 참배한 뒤 지휘부가 참석한 가운데 열린 취임 간담회에서 “부산의 안전을 지키는 중심축이 되는 것이 경찰의 사명”이라며 “올바르고 강인한 스마트 부산경찰을 만들어 지속가능한 안전도시 부산을 구현하겠다”고 밝혔다.
그는 경찰이 헌법 정신과 인권 가치를 직접 구현하는 기관임을 강조하며, 변화하는 치안환경 속에서 이러한 가치가 체질화되어야 한다고 말했다. 또 보이스피싱과 마약, 관계성 범죄 등으로 인한 국민 불안을 근원적으로 해소하기 위해 원인 치유적 노력을 강화하고 유관기관과 협업해 안전공동체를 만들겠다고 했다.
김 청장은 “역동적이되 원칙을 저버리지 않고, 따뜻하되 가볍지 않은 부산경찰의 문화를 함께 만들어 가겠다”며 “부산의 안전과 부산경찰의 미래를 위해 최선을 다하겠다”고 포부를 밝혔다.
그는 이날 저녁 치안 수요가 가장 많은 서면지구대를 찾아 현장 경찰관들을 격려하고 치안 상황을 직접 점검할 예정이다. 서면지구대는 하루 평균 80여 건의 112신고를 처리하며, 일일 유동 인구가 100만 명을 넘는 부산 최대 번화가 서면 일대를 관할한다.
김 청장은 경찰대학 9기로, 서울대 행정학 석사와 경기대 경호보안학 박사학위를 취득했다. 1993년 경위로 입직해 경찰청 대변인과 경남경찰청장을 지냈으며, 지난해 9월 치안정감으로 승진 내정 후 경찰대학장 직무대리를 거쳐 제37대 부산경찰청장으로 취임했다.

Kim Sung-hee officially began his term as the 37th commissioner of the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency on April 6, taking charge as the city’s top law enforcement officer.
After paying tribute at the Busan Police Memorial, Commissioner Kim held an inaugural meeting with senior officers, expressing gratitude to his colleagues for their dedication to public safety. He presented his vision for “a smart, strong, and upright Busan police” as the guiding principle for the agency.
Kim emphasized that the police, as the institution that most directly embodies constitutional values, must internalize the spirit of the Constitution and respect for human rights amid a changing security environment. He pledged to strengthen efforts to address the root causes of public anxiety stemming from crimes such as voice phishing, drug-related offenses, and relational violence, and to build a sustainable safety network through collaboration with relevant agencies.
He also stated his commitment to fostering a police culture that is dynamic yet principled, warm yet disciplined, and one that reinforces strengths while compensating for weaknesses. “We will do our utmost for Busan’s safety and the future of the Busan police,” he said.
Later in the evening, Kim planned to visit the Seomyeon Police Precinct, the busiest area in the city, to encourage frontline officers and assess local policing conditions. The precinct covers Seomyeon’s central districts, which see over one million daily visitors and handle more than 80 emergency calls each day.
A graduate of the Korean National Police University’s 9th class, Kim holds a master’s degree in public administration from Seoul National University and a PhD in protective security from Kyonggi University. Since joining the force in 1993, he has served as spokesperson for the National Police Agency and as commissioner of the Gyeongnam Provincial Police. Last September, he was promoted to senior superintendent general and served as acting president of the Police University before assuming his current post.
