포항불교사암연합회(회장 덕화스님)는 오는 4월 20일 포항시청 점등식을 시작으로 지역 주요 공공기관을 순회하며 연등 점등 행사를 봉행한다고 9일 밝혔다.
점등식 일정은 △20일 포항시청(오후 6시) △21일 포항북부경찰서(오후 4시30분) △22일 포항남부경찰서(오후 4시30분) △30일 포항해양경찰서(오후 4시30분) 순이다.
연등 점등은 부처님의 탄생을 기념하는 대표적인 봉축행사로, 지역사회 안녕과 평화를 기원하는 의미를 담고 있다. 연합회는 매년 공공기관 중심의 점등 행사를 통해 시민과의 접점을 넓혀왔다.
5월에는 시민이 함께 참여하는 대규모 봉축 문화행사도 이어진다. 오는 5월 9일 영일대 해수욕장 누각 앞 광장에서 열리는 ‘시민소통문화제’가 이번 봉축행사의 핵심 프로그램이다.
행사는 오후 1시 불교문화 체험마당을 시작으로 △오후 4시30분 식전공연(의줄타기·가수 설운도 공연·오재미·국악 등) △오후 6시 봉축법요식 △오후 7시30분 제등행렬 순으로 진행된다.
이와 함께 5월 30일에는 해병대 장병을 위한 수계법회도 열려 신행활동과 나눔의 장이 마련될 예정이다.
덕화스님은 “부처님오신날 봉축행사는 종교를 넘어 시민 모두가 함께하는 지역 축제”라며 “이번 행사가 시민들에게 마음의 평안과 사회적 화합을 전하는 계기가 되길 바란다”고 말했다.

In May, large-scale cultural events celebrating Buddha's Birthday with citizen participation will also take place. The "Citizen Communication Cultural Festival," to be held on May 9 at the plaza in front of the pavilion at Yeongildae Beach, is the core program of this celebration.
The event will proceed in the following order: a Buddhist culture experience zone at 1:00 PM; pre-ceremony performances (tightrope walking, singer Seol Woon-do, Ojaemi, traditional Korean music, etc.) at 4:30 PM; a Buddhist Dharma ceremony at 6:00 PM; and a lantern procession at 7:30 PM.
In addition, a precept-taking ceremony for Marine Corps soldiers will be held on May 30, providing a venue for religious practice and sharing. Venerable Deokhwa said, “The Buddha’s Birthday celebration is a local festival where all citizens come together, transcending religion,” adding, “I hope this event serves as an opportunity to bring peace of mind and social harmony to the citizens.”
