<브레이크뉴스 강릉 = 남상훈 기자> 강릉시가 한 해 농사의 성패를 좌우하는 벼 육묘 작업에 본격적으로 돌입하며 '고품질 강릉 쌀' 생산을 위한 힘찬 첫걸음을 내디뎠다.
강릉시는 본격적인 영농철을 맞아 지역 내 벼 육묘장들이 일제히 가동되며 순조로운 모기르기 작업이 진행되고 있다고 밝혔다. 특히 올해는 철저한 과학적 육묘 관리와 더불어 농업인들 사이의 끈끈한 '품앗이' 문화가 더해져, 안정적인 모 공급은 물론 농촌 공동체에 새로운 활력을 불어넣을 것으로 기대를 모으고 있다.
지난해 강릉시는 10a(300평)당 514kg의 수확량을 기록, 평년 대비 2.8% 증수라는 값진 성과를 거둔 바 있다. 시는 이 같은 상승세를 올해도 이어가기 위해 육묘 단계부터 촘촘하고 체계적인 관리에 나선다는 방침이다.
현재 주문진읍과 연곡면에 위치한 관내 공동 육묘장 2개소(40a 규모)는 고령농과 소규모 영세 농가의 든든한 지원군 역할을 톡톡히 해내고 있다. 이곳에서는 순차적인 파종을 거쳐 오는 5월 초부터 튼실하게 자란 모를 각 농가에 공급할 예정이다.
