SNS 저널인 페이스북 4월 9일치에서 정동영 통일부 장관이 직접 쓴 글을 읽게 됐다. 정동영 장관은 이날 강원도 고성을 방문, 그 소회(所懷)를 풀어놨다.
이 글에서 “200만 명의 우리 국민이 금강산을 향해 출발했던 곳, 고성을 다시 찾으니 감회가 새롭습니다. 20년 전에 노무현 정부의 통일부장관으로, 금강산 신계사 복원 법회에 참석했던 기억이 생생합니다. 신계사는 잘 있겠지요.“라면서 ”금강산 관광은 남북화해협력시대를 이끌어온 민족 상생(相生) 사업이었습니다. 금강산으로 가는 바닷길이 열리자 철조망을 헤치고 철길이 이어졌고 도로도 이어졌습니다. 금강산에서 이어진 사람과 사람의 만남은 대립과 반목을 허물었습니다. 금강산 가는 길이 끊기지 않았더라면 지금의 남북관계는 완전히 다른 모습이었을 것입니다. 참으로 안타깝고 아쉬운 마음이 큽니다“고, 기술했다.

이어 “금강산으로 향하는 길은 2008년 7월 끊어진 이래 18년이 흘렀습니다. 그 사이에 여러 번 다시 이을 기회가 있었음에도 불구하고 이를 잇지 못한 것은 무능하고도 부끄러운 일입니다. 이제, 다시 길을 열어야 합니다. 그리고 이 흐름은 금강산에서 멈추지 않을 것입니다. 금강산에서 북쪽으로 80km, 200리를 올라가면 원산갈마명사십리 해안관광지구가 자리하고 있습니다.”면서 “기억하실 것입니다. 지금으로부터 10년 전, 2016년에는 원산·갈마반도에서 수백 대 탱크를 도열해 놓고 불을 뿜는 화력훈련 장면이 있었습니다. 10년 뒤 오늘, 원산·갈마는 국제적 관광지로 변모하고 있습니다. 이것은 한반도가 나아가야 할 방향을 상징적으로 보여주고 있습니다. 탱크에서 불을 뿜는 원산·갈마가 아니라, 세계적 관광명소로 사랑을 받는 원산갈마가 돼야 합니다. 남과 북도 군사적 긴장과 미움이 아니라 평화와 공존으로, 적대와 대결이 아닌 화해와 협력으로 다시 나아가야 합니다.”고 강조했다.
또한 “금강산과 원산·갈마길이 이어진다면, 동해에 아름다운 해안선 길은 한반도를 넘어서 세계인이 찾는 평화의 명소 공간으로 확장될 것입니다. 금강산에서 원산으로, 나아가 한반도의 곳곳을 자유롭게 오갈 수 있는 평화관광의 시대가 도래 한다면 북측이 강조하는 발전권 역시 새로운 차원으로 확장될 것이라고 믿습니다.”면서 “비록, 오늘은 통일전망대까지의 걸음이지만 이 걸음이 금강산으로 이어질 수 있기를 간절히 기원합니다. 다툼은 그치고 어울림으로 함께 사는 길을 향해 갑시다. 정부도 한반도 평화공존의 길을 흔들림 없이 걸어가겠습니다.”라고, 덧붙였다.
필자가 정동영 장관이 이날 SNS 저널인 페이스북에 게재한 글을 대부분 인용한 것은 정동영 장관의 본심이 어떠한지? 본 마음 그대로를, 옮겨보려는 의도(意圖)이다.

남북 간 평화는 대한민국=경제대국을 지켜주는 기본 자산이라고 생각된다. 이란의 도심을 파괴하는 폭탄의 위력은 어마어마했다. 그러하니 남북 간에는 평화가 유지돼야만 한다.
정동영 장관은 한때 여당 대선후보였었다. 그리고 노무현 정부의 통일부 장관(2004-2005)을 지냈다. 이때 개성공단을 만들어 냈다. 이어 현재는 이재명 정부의 통일부 장관이다. 정동영 장관이 페이스북에 올린 글은 평화의 중요성을 웅변(雄辯)하고 있다.
