브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 대우건설은 국내 데이터센터 수요 확대에 적극 대응하고, 해외시장 진출 모색과 내부 역량 강화를 위해 ‘데이터센터 TFT’를 신설했다고 13일 밝혔다.
업계에 따르면 최근 생성형 AI 및 클라우드 서비스 수요 급증에 따라, 데이터센터 시장 역시 크게 확대될 것으로 전망된다. 이에 대우건설은 데이터센터를 미래 신성장 동력으로 삼고, 설계, 시공, 전기∙기계(MEP:Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) 등 각 분야에서 데이터센터 특화 전문 인력을 양성하고 전문성을 강화하기 위해 ‘데이터센터 TFT’를 신설했다.
대우건설은 ‘데이터센터 TFT’를 통해 국내외 데이터센터 건설시장 진입 전략을 구체화하고, 관련 설계, 기술 및 시공 역량을 체계적으로 확보해 나갈 계획이다.
또한, 사업 추진 과정에서 예상되는 리스크를 선제적으로 분석하고, 관련 사업자 및 전문업체와의 파트너십 구축도 병행할 예정이다. 나아가 양질의 사업을 발굴해 단순 시공을 넘어 투자·개발·운영·관리까지 모든 사업 과정을 아우르는 데이터센터 ‘디벨로퍼’로 도약한다는 계획이다.
대우건설은 2025년 6월 40MW 규모의 ‘강남 데이터센터(엠피리온 디지털 AI 캠퍼스)’를 성공적으로 준공했으며, 현재 전남지역 1호 데이터센터인 최대 60MW 규모의 ‘장성 파인데이터센터’에는 출자자 및 시공사로 참여하고 있다. 해외에서는 베트남을 비롯한 동남아 지역 데이터센터 사업 참여도 모색 중이다.
지난 1월에는 장성군, 강진군, 민간 참여 기관과 함께 ‘AI 데이터센터 구축을 위한 업무협약’을 체결했다. 해당 사업은 전남 장성과 강진 지역에 각각 200MW, 300MW 규모의 초대형 데이터센터를 조성하는 프로젝트로, 현재 2027년 착공을 목표로 사업 관련 인허가 절차가 진행 중이다. 이번 사업에서 대우건설은 컨소시엄의 핵심 파트너로서 설계, 조달, 시공 뿐만 아니라 ‘디벨로퍼’로서 투자 및 개발에도 참여할 계획이다.
대우건설 관계자는 “데이터센터는 AI 시대를 선도하는 핵심 인프라로서 지역 경제 활성화와 국가 경쟁력 강화의 중추가 될 것”이라며 “이번 TFT를 기반으로 시공 역량은 물론, 부지 매입부터 인허가, 운영∙관리를 포함한 개발사업 역량을 강화하고 해외시장 개척에도 적극 나설 계획이다”고 말했다.
