세종시선거관리위원회(이하 ‘세종시선관위’)는 선거구민에게 선물을 제공한 혐의로 세종시의회의원선거 예비후보자 A씨를 대전지방검찰청에 고발했다고 13일 밝혔다.
'공직선거법'에 따르면 후보자는 선거구민과 연고가 있는 자에게 기부행위를 할 수 없고, 이를 위반할 경우 5년 이하의 징역 또는 1천만원 이하의 벌금에 처하도록 규정하고 있다.
시 선관위 관계자는 “금품 제공 등 위법행위에 대해서는 강력히 단속하겠다"며 “금품 등을 제공 받을 시 받은 금액의 10배에서 최대 50배(최고 3,000만원)까지 과태료가 부과될 수 있는 만큼 각별한 주의”를 당부했다.
