<브레이크뉴스 속초 = 남상훈 기자> 속초시 노학동 행정복지센터가 일상 속 자원순환을 통한 탄소중립 실천을 위해 '폐건전지 교환사업'을 본격 재개한다.
14일 속초시에 따르면, 이번 사업은 생활폐기물 올바른 분리배출에 대한 시민 의식을 제고하고 기후위기에 적극 대응하고자 노학동 주민자치위원회의 특화사업으로 다시 추진된다. 앞서 노학동은 올해 초부터 해당 사업을 진행해 왔으나, 수거 방식의 변경으로 인해 잠시 운영을 중단한 바 있다.
교환 기준은 건전지 규격과 관계없이 다 쓴 폐건전지 10개를 모아오면 각티슈 1개로 교환해 주는 방식이다. 교환을 희망하는 주민은 노학동 행정복지센터를 방문해 상시로 참여할 수 있다.
폐건전지는 철, 아연, 니켈 등 유용한 금속자원을 함유하고 있어 올바르게 분리배출할 경우 귀중한 자원으로 재활용된다. 반면 일반 쓰레기와 함께 버려질 경우 심각한 토양 및 수질 오염을 유발하는 원인이 된다.
속초시 관계자는 "폐건전지 교환사업은 시민 누구나 일상에서 손쉽게 동참할 수 있는 환경 보호 실천법"이라며 "작은 분리수거 습관이 모여 지속 가능한 친환경 도시 속초를 만드는 밑거름이 되는 만큼, 주민 여러분의 적극적인 참여를 당부드린다"고 전했다.
