학교라는 물리적 공간이 단순한 '배움의 장소'를 넘어 학생의 감성과 꿈을 담아내는 '성장의 도구'로 거듭나고 있다.
충남교육청은 14일 예산 스플라스 리솜에서 노후·소규모 학교 관리자와 교원, 교육지원청 담당자 등 240명을 대상으로 ‘2026년 학교공간혁신 사업 배움자리’를 운영했다고 밝혔다.
이번 행사는 노후 시설의 기능 개선을 넘어, 미래 교육의 핵심 가치를 담은 공간 전환 방향을 현장과 함께 고민하기 위해 마련됐다.
그동안 도 교육청은 공간재구조화, 학교복합시설, 감성꿈틀 사업 등을 통해 '충남형 미래 학교' 모델을 구축해왔다.
특히 이번 배움자리는 사용자 주도의 공간 전환을 지원하고 우수 사례를 공유함으로써 현장의 실행력과 추진 역량을 높이는 데 초점을 맞췄다.
배움자리의 포문은 건양대학교 임오연 교수가 열었다. 임 교수는 ‘공간으로 그리는 미래’를 주제로 기존 학교 공간의 한계를 진단하며, 교육과정과 수업, 공간이 유기적으로 변화해야 함을 역설했다.
이어 한국교육개발원 박성철 센터장은 ‘학교복합시설 활성화 방안’을 주제로 강연을 이어갔다.
학교가 지역 공동체의 거점이 되어 주민과 시설을 공유하는 복합화 모델과 공모 사업의 주요 유형을 소개하며, 학교와 지역이 상생하는 새로운 공공시설의 방향을 제시했다.
복자여자고등학교 김선옥 교감은 고교학점제형 교실과 독서·융합 활동 중심의 도서관, 학년별 소통·휴식 공간 조성 등 실제 사례를 발표했다.
김 교감은 교육과정과 연계한 공간의 변화가 학생들의 학습 집중도를 높이는 것은 물론, 학교 안에서의 삶의 질을 어떻게 향상시켰는지 구체적으로 입증해 보였다.
김진규 미래학교추진단장은 “학교공간혁신은 시설 개선을 넘어 배움과 성장을 중심에 둔 교육의 근본적 변화 과정”이라며 “현장의 경험과 고민을 세심하게 반영해 학생이 행복하고 교사가 수업하기 좋은 학교 공간을 조성하는 데 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 밝혔다.
도 교육청은 이번 배움자리를 기점으로 지역 특성을 반영한 맞춤형 공간 혁신을 지속 지원할 방침이다.

The Chungnam Office of Education announced that it held the "2026 School Space Innovation Project Workshop" on the 14th at Splas Resom in Yesan, targeting 240 participants including administrators of aging and small-scale schools, teachers, and staff from educational support offices.
This event was organized to move beyond simply improving the functionality of aging facilities and to deliberate with the field on directions for space transformation that embody the core values of future education.
Over the years, the Provincial Office of Education has been building a "Chungnam-type Future School" model through initiatives such as space restructuring, school complex facilities, and the Gamsung Kkumteul project.
