브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 정부가 호르무즈 해협에 고립된 한국 선박의 안전 확보를 위해 인근 국가들과 공조하고 있다고 밝혔다.
조현 외교부 장관은 15일 국회 외교통일위원회 전체회의에 출석해 “호르무즈 해협에 있는 우리 선박의 안전을 위해 이란뿐 아니라 걸프협력회의(GCC) 국가들과 미국에 관련 정보를 공유하고 안전 협조를 요청했다”고 밝혔다.
조 장관은 한국 선박 26척의 정보를 이란 측에 제공했는지에 대한 질의에 “특정 국가에만 제공한 것이 아니라 선박 안전을 위한 조치”라고 설명했다. 이어 “현재 휴전 상황을 활용해 선박과 선원의 안전 확보 및 철수 가능성을 높이기 위해 주변국과 협력하고 있다”고 덧붙였다.
현재 호르무즈 해협에는 한국 선박 26척과 약 170명의 선원이 머물고 있는 것으로 파악됐다. 정부는 이들의 안전 확보를 최우선 과제로 두고 대응 중이다.
이와 관련해 이란에 파견된 정병하 특사는 현지 고위 당국자들과 접촉하며 통항 문제를 협의하고 있다. 조 장관은 “공관원과 교민, 선박 및 선원의 안전을 최우선으로 요청하고 있으며, 상황이 안정될 때까지 현지에서 긴밀히 협의를 이어가도록 했다”고 밝혔다.
또한 이란 측과의 협상 과정에서 금전적 대가를 제공하는 방안에 대해서는 선을 그었다. 조 장관은 “미국과 관련 정보를 긴밀히 공유하고 있으며, 미국과의 협의에 반하는 방식의 조치는 고려하지 않고 있다”고 말했다.
정부는 이번 사태를 계기로 에너지 공급망 안정 대책도 병행 추진하고 있다. 단기적으로는 홍해 및 호르무즈 해협 외 항로를 활용한 수입 방안을 검토하고, 장기적으로는 중동 의존도를 낮추기 위한 에너지 수입선 다변화를 추진한다는 방침이다.
조 장관은 “현재 원유 물량 확보뿐 아니라 가격 문제가 중요한 상황”이라며 “이번 사태를 계기로 물류·에너지 구조 전반의 체질 개선이 필요하다”고 강조했다.
