원주시는 지난 16일 서울 강남구 강남메디컬투어센터에서 개최된 ‘주한대사부인회 초청 의료관광 팸투어’에 지역 홍보 기관 자격으로 참가해 원주 옻칠공예의 고풍스러운 아름다움을 세계에 알렸다고 밝혔다.

강남구가 주최한 이번 팸투어는 방글라데시, 멕시코, 헝가리 등 16개국 주한대사 부인들을 초청해 강남의 선진 의료·뷰티·관광 인프라를 소개하는 자리로 마련됐다.

이날 원주시는 행사장 내에 특별 전시를 마련해 강원특별자치도 무형유산 채화칠장 양유전 선생과 나전칠기장 박귀래 선생의 명작을 비롯해, ‘제20회 원주시 한국옻칠공예대전’에서 대상을 거머쥔 이미숙 작가의 실용적인 생활 공예품들을 다채롭게 선보였다. 일상에서 쉽게 접하기 힘든 진귀하고 우아한 옻칠 작품들은 참석한 대사 부인들의 탄성과 큰 호응을 이끌어냈다.

원주시는 이미 지난해 9월 강남페스티벌 기간 중 코엑스에서 옻칠공예 전시를 성공적으로 개최해 국내외 관람객들의 찬사를 받은 바 있다. 시는 자매결연 도시인 강남구와의 끈끈한 협력을 바탕으로 앞으로도 다양한 교류 행사에 참여하며 지역 간 상생 발전을 도모할 방침이다.
