16일 속초시에 따르면, 이병선 속초시장이 제9회 전국동시지방선거 예비후보로 등록함에 따라 지난 15일 오후부터 배상요 부시장 권한대행 체제로 공식 전환했다고 밝혔다. 이번 권한대행 체제는 선거가 치러지는 오는 6월 3일 24시까지 유지된다.

이에 배상요 권한대행은 16일 오전 10시 시청 상황실에서 국장단 및 주무 과장 등이 참석한 가운데 현안 점검 회의를 주재하고, 시정 전반의 주요 현안을 꼼꼼히 살폈다.
특히 배 권한대행은 다가오는 지방선거와 관련해 전 공직자에게 엄정한 공직 기강 확립과 철저한 정치적 중립 의무 준수를 강력히 당부했다. 아울러 공직자로서의 기본 복무 규정을 엄수하고, 속초시가 이어온 투명하고 깨끗한 행정을 지속해 줄 것을 주문했다.
