영양군은 2021년부터 2025년까지 지역특화 청년창업 지원사업을 추진하며 청년 인구 감소와 지역 일자리 부족 문제 해소에 힘써왔다. 특히 해당 사업은 2024년부터 지방소멸대응기금 대상 사업으로 지정되면서 지속성과 안정성을 확보했다.
군은 국립경국대학교와의 협력을 바탕으로 청년 유출과 고용 기반 부족이라는 지역의 구조적 문제 해결에 집중해 왔다. 이를 통해 지역 특산물을 활용한 카페 창업, 전통 장류 산업화, 농가 마케팅 플랫폼 구축 등 다양한 분야의 청년 창업이 이어지며 지역경제에 새로운 활력을 불어넣고 있다.
일부 창업업체는 백화점 입점과 전국 단위 박람회 참가를 통해 외부 시장 진출에도 성공하며 경쟁력을 입증하고 있다. 청년 창업가들의 참신한 아이디어가 지역 산업의 새로운 성장 동력으로 자리 잡고 있다는 평가다.
이 같은 성과를 바탕으로 지난해 12월 열린 청년창업자 성과공유회에서는 다양한 분야의 창업자들이 우수 사례를 공유하고 협업 가능성을 모색하는 네트워킹 행사도 마련됐다.
영양군은 2026년부터 창업 지원 기간을 기존 3년에서 5년으로 확대해 청년 창업기업의 안정적인 정착과 성장을 뒷받침할 계획이다.
영양군 관계자는 “청년들의 열정과 도전이 곧 지역의 미래”라며 “앞으로도 청년들이 지역에 뿌리내릴 수 있도록 안정적인 창업 생태계를 조성하고 다각적이고 지속적인 지원을 이어가겠다”고 말했다.
