대한적십자사봉사회 영천화산적십자봉사회(회장 강병수)는 지난 16일 영천시 화산면 복지회관에서 지역 취약계층을 위한 ‘사랑의 세탁 봉사’를 실시했다고 밝혔다.
이번 활동은 봄철 환절기를 맞아 위생 환경이 취약한 어르신들에게 쾌적한 생활환경을 제공하기 위해 마련됐다.
이날 봉사 현장에는 회원 10명이 참여해 이른 아침부터 구슬땀을 흘렸다. 봉사원들은 거동이 불편해 대형 빨래를 직접 하기 어려운 독거노인 30세대를 찾아 안부를 살피고 이불 40채를 수거했다.
수거된 이불은 대한적십자사 특수 이동 세탁 차량을 통해 세탁부터 살균, 건조까지 원스톱으로 처리됐다. 고온 건조를 마친 이불은 다시 봉사원들의 손을 거쳐 각 가정으로 전달되며 어르신들에게 따뜻한 온기를 전했다.
강병수 영천화산적십자봉사회 회장은 “겨우내 묵은 먼지를 머금은 이불을 새것처럼 깨끗하게 세탁해 드릴 수 있어 매우 뜻깊다”며 “바쁜 일정 속에서도 이웃 사랑 실천에 함께해 준 회원들에게 감사드린다”고 말했다.
김재왕 대한적십자사 경북지사 회장은 “세탁 봉사는 단순한 가사 지원을 넘어 소외된 이웃의 건강과 정서적 안정을 지키는 중요한 활동”이라며 “앞으로도 도민 삶의 질을 높일 수 있는 생활밀착형 복지 서비스를 지속적으로 확대하겠다”고 밝혔다.
한편 대한적십자사 경북지사와 영천화산적십자봉사회는 이번 세탁 봉사를 계기로 지역 내 복지 사각지대 발굴에 더욱 힘쓰고, 재난구호뿐 아니라 생활밀착형 봉사활동도 꾸준히 이어갈 계획이다.

The front yard of the Hwasan-myeon Welfare Center in Yeongcheon, where vibrant spring flowers were in full bloom, was transformed into a massive ‘outdoor laundry’ for a single day.
The Yeongcheon Hwasan Red Cross Volunteer Service (Chairman Kang Byeong-su) of the Korean Red Cross announced that it conducted a ‘Laundry of Love’ service for local vulnerable groups at the Hwasan-myeon Welfare Center in Yeongcheon on the 16th.
This activity was organized to provide a pleasant living environment for the elderly, whose hygiene conditions are vulnerable during the changing seasons of spring.
Ten members participated in the service on this day, working hard from early morning. The volunteers visited 30 households of elderly people living alone who have difficulty doing large loads of laundry themselves due to mobility issues, checked on their well-being, and collected 40 blankets.
The collected blankets were processed in a one-stop manner, from washing to sterilization and drying, using a specialized mobile laundry vehicle provided by the Korean Red Cross. After being dried at high temperatures, the blankets were passed through the hands of volunteers and delivered to each household, bringing warmth to the elderly.
Kang Byeong-su, President of the Yeongcheon Hwasan Red Cross Volunteer Association, said, “It is very meaningful to be able to wash blankets, which have accumulated dust throughout the winter, to make them look as clean as new,” adding, “I thank the members who joined in practicing neighborly love despite their busy schedules.”
Kim Jae-wang, President of the Gyeongbuk Branch of the Korean Red Cross, stated, “Laundry volunteering is an important activity that goes beyond simple household support to safeguard the health and emotional stability of marginalized neighbors,” and added, “We will continue to expand community-oriented welfare services that can improve the quality of life for provincial residents.”
Meanwhile, the Gyeongbuk Branch of the Korean Red Cross and the Yeongcheon Hwasan Red Cross Volunteer Association plan to use this laundry service as an opportunity to further strengthen efforts to identify welfare blind spots within the region and to consistently continue community-oriented volunteer activities in addition to disaster relief.
