이날 행사에는 이기태 열사의 유족과 이택수 영동군 부군수, 노창환 무주군 부군수, 영동군의회 신현광 의장, 무주군의회 오광석 의장, 경희대 영동군동문회, 주민 등 100여 명이 참석했다.
참석자들은 헌화와 분향 등을 하며, 열사의 애국충절을 회상하고 고귀한 희생을 기렸다.
1937년 학산면 압치마을에서 태어난 이기태 열사는 대전고를 졸업하고 경희대 법대에 입학한 뒤 학생회장을 맡아 자유당의 부정부패와 3·15부정선거에 항거했다.
이 열사는 누구보다 앞장서 구국의 함성을 외치다 24세의 꽃다운 나이로 안타깝게 생을 마감했다.
이후, 이 열사의 유해는 문민정부 이후 4·19를 혁명으로 규정하면서 새롭게 단장된 서울 강북구 수유동의 4·19묘역으로 이장됐다.
