“과천의 뿌리, 고지도와 인물로 만난다” 추사박물관 ‘과천본색’ 테마전

과천시 추사박물관이 시 승격 40주년을 맞아 과천의 역사적 정체성을 재조명하는 특별한 시간을 마련했다. 추사박물관은 오는 4월 29일부터 8월 30일까지 기획전시실에서 ‘2026 테마전: 과천본색(果川本色)–옛날 옛날 과천은’을 개최한다.

전시의 서막을 여는 1부 ‘과천의 지도와 지리지’에서는 삼국사기와 고려사 등 고대 문헌 속에 기록된 과천의 첫 모습을 소개한다. 특히 1872년 제작된 지방지도를 비롯해 과천현신수읍지, 팔도군현지도 등 귀중한 고지도를 통해 오늘날 과천이라는 지명이 확립되기까지의 역사적 흐름을 한눈에 살펴볼 수 있다.

2부 ‘과천의 역사와 인물’에서는 과천과 깊은 인연을 맺은 역사적 인물들의 숨결을 느낄 수 있다. 연주암에 모셔진 효령대군 영정과 병자호란 당시 의병 활동을 기록한 「과천창의도」가 전시된다. 또한, 정조대왕이 직접 쓴 ‘온온사’와 ‘부림헌’ 현판, 그리고 과천에서 말년을 보내며 예술의 꽃을 피운 추사 김정희의 초상과 세한도 등 국보급 서화 작품들이 관람객을 맞이한다.

추사박물관은 이번 전시를 통해 추사 전문 박물관을 넘어 지역의 역사를 기록하고 전파하는 거점으로서의 역할을 강화할 방침이다. 관람객들의 이해를 돕기 위해 상세한 해설을 담은 도록 겸 리플릿도 함께 발간한다.

시 관계자는 “이번 ‘과천본색’ 전시는 과천의 역사와 문화를 종합적으로 갈무리하는 자리”라며 “시 승격 40주년을 맞은 시민들이 고향의 의미를 되새기는 뜻깊은 시간이 되길 바란다”고 전했다.

To mark the 40th anniversary of Gwacheon’s elevation to city status, the Chusa Museum in Gwacheon has prepared a special event to shed new light on the city’s historical identity. The museum will host the ‘2026 Theme Exhibition: Gwacheon’s True Colors – Once Upon a Time, Gwacheon’ in the Special Exhibition Hall from April 29 to August 30.

Part 1, ‘Maps and Geography of Gwacheon,’ which opens the exhibition, introduces the earliest appearances of Gwacheon recorded in ancient documents such as the Samguk Sagi and the Goryeo History. In particular, through valuable ancient maps—including a local map produced in 1872, the Gwacheonhyeon Sinsu-eupji, and the Paldo Gunhyeon Jido—visitors can examine the historical flow leading up to the establishment of the name Gwacheon as it exists today at a glance. In Part 2, "History and Figures of Gwacheon," visitors can feel the presence of historical figures deeply connected to the city. The portrait of Grand Prince Hyoryeong enshrined at Yeonjuam Hermitage and the *Gwacheon Changuido*, which records the activities of the righteous army during the Manchu Invasion of Korea, are on display. Additionally, visitors are greeted by national treasure-class calligraphy and painting works, including the signboards of *Ononsa* and *Burimheon* personally written by King Jeongjo, as well as the portrait and *Sehando* by Chusa Kim Jeong-hui, who blossomed as an artist while spending his later years in Gwacheon.

Through this exhibition, the Chusa Museum plans to strengthen its role as a hub for recording and disseminating regional history, moving beyond its function as a museum dedicated to Chusa. To aid visitor understanding, a catalog and leaflet containing detailed commentary will also be published. A city official stated, “This ‘Gwacheon’s True Colors’ exhibition is an opportunity to comprehensively summarize Gwacheon’s history and culture,” adding, “We hope this will be a meaningful time for citizens celebrating the 40th anniversary of the city’s elevation to city status to reflect on the meaning of their hometown.”
