브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 더불어민주당이 내년 서울·부산시장 보궐선거에 후보를 공천하기로 결정했다.
최인호 민주당 수석대변인은 2일 오전 국회 브리핑을 통해 내년 보궐선거 관련 당헌 개정에 대해 총 투표수 21만1804표 중 18만3509표로 ,86.64%가 공천하는데 찬성했다고 전했다. 반대는 13.36%였다.
민주당은 지난달 31일부터 1일까지 이틀간 권리당원을 대상으로 온라인 투표를 진행했으며 당헌 96조 2항의 이른바 '무공천' 조항에 '전당원 투표로 달리 정할 수 있다'는 예외조항을 두는 데 대한 찬반을 조사했다.
최 수석대변인은 당원 투표 결과와 관련 "짧은 시간에도 불구하고 높은 투표율을 기록한 건 재·보궐선거에 대한 당원들의 관심을 반영한 것"이라며 "86.6%라는 압도적 찬성률은 재보선에서 공천을 해야 한다는 전당원의 의지의 표출로 본다. 이번 재보선에서 후보를 공천해 시민들의 선택을 받는 게 책임정치에 더 부합한다는 이낙연 대표와 지도부의 결단에 대한 전폭적 지지"라고 강조했다.
이에 따라 민주당은 이날 곧장 최고위원회에서 투표결과를 의결하고 당무위원회 부위안건을 처리하는 등 당헌개정 작업에 착수할 계획이다. 오는 3일에 당 중앙위원회를 개최해 당헌개정을 완료할 것으로 보이며, 후보자 선거기획단 구성에 돌입한다.
이낙연 대표는 후보 공천에 대한 비난이 쏟아지는 데 대해 "당원들의 뜻이 모아졌다고 해서 서울과 부산의 시정에 공백을 초래하고 보궐선거 치르게 한 잘못이 없어지는 것은 아니다"라며 "서울·부산 시민을 비롯한 국민여러분께 다시 한번 사과드린다. 피해여성께도 거듭 사과드린다"고 당을 대표해 사과했다.
한편 안철수 국민의당 대표는 이날 민주당이 후보 공천을 결정한 것과 관련 "단언컨대 오늘로써 민주당은 대의민주주의 체제 하의 공당으로서 사망 선고를 받는다. 스스로 도덕적 파산을 선언하는 것"이라고 맹비판했다.
안철수 대표는 "자신들이야말로 진짜 적폐세력이라고 ‘커밍아웃’ 한 것"이라며 "국민 세금으로 충당되는 선거비용 838억원 전액을 내야 한다. 민주당 때문에 써야 하는 국민 혈세인 만큼 변명 여지가 없다. 이 정도 부담은 감수하는 것이 최소한의 도리 아니겠느냐"고 주장했다.
김종인 국민의힘 비상대책위원장도 "당헌까지 고쳐서 서울·부산시장 재보선 공천을 강행한다고 하니 참으로 기가찰 노릇"이라며 "내년 4월 서울·부산시장 재보선은 여당 출신 시장의 잇따른 권력형 성폭행으로 인해 저질러진 성추행 보궐선거"라고 규정했다.
