브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 임종석 남북경제문화협력재단 이사장은 21일 대선 출마와 관련 "때가 안 올 것 같으면 후배들을 위해 밭을 갈아야 하지 않겠나"라며 불출마를 시사했다.
임종석 이사장은 이날 오전 중구 대한상공회의소에서 열린 '다시 시작하는 남북합의 이행' 토론회 직후 기자들과 만난 자리에서 "정치인은 때가 되면 나서고, 때가 아니라면 기다려야 한다"며 이같이 말했다.
그는 "미래에 내가 가장 잘할 수 있는 일을 찾아서 하고 있다"며 "남북 평화와 번영은 내게 숙명같은 문제이기도 하다. "이라고 말했다.
이어 그는 "문재인 정부의 남은 기간이 남북 문제의 의미있는 진전과 북미간 대화에서 새로운 해법을 찾기까지 부족하지는 않다"면서 "그래서 이 기간 동안 최선을 다해볼 생각"이라고 강조했다.
다만 임종석 이사장은 "오늘이 내 개인적인, 정치적인 문제로 튀는 처신을 한다는 게 조심스러워서 오늘은 특별히 드릴 말씀이 없다"며 말을 아끼는 모습을 보였다. 민주당 대선 경선 연기 등 정치 현안에 대해서도 "전혀 입장이 없다"고 답을 내놓지 않았다.
