대구대학교(총장 김상호)가 손석용 열사 30주기 및 장학사업위원회 장학기금 전달식을 개최했다.
지난 21일 경산캠퍼스 17층 스카이라운지에서 열린 이번 전달식에는 김상호 총장, 추모사업회 회원, 민주동문회원 등이 참석하였으며 발전기금 전달식, 장학금 수여식 및 추모제와 함께 교내에 설치한 ‘민주광장’에서 손석용 열사 추모공간 설치를 기념하는 제막식도 진행되었다.

해당 장학사업은 손석용 열사를 추모하고, 대구대 민주화 운동의 자랑스러운 역사를 구성원및 지역사회에 알림으로써 민주주의와 인권의 소중함을 배우는 교육의 장을 조성하기 위해 마련된 것으로 손석용열사추모사업회가 손석용 열사의 모교인 대구대 재학생 장학금 지원을 위해 마련한 5천만 원이 대학 발전기금으로 전달되었다.
김흥기 손석용열사추모사업회장은 “손석용 열사 유가족과 추모사업회가 가장 중점적으로 생각하는 부분은 장학사업이다”면서 “손석용 열사를 추모하고 민주화 운동의 역사를 기억할 수 있는 공간을 마련해준 대구대에도 감사드린다”고 말했다.
김상호 총장은 “후배들을 위한 의미가 큰 장학금 전달에 감사드린다”면서 “대구대는 사회적 약자를 위한 민주화된 대학이라는 특성화된 정체성을 가지고 앞으로도 각 구성원의 의견을 존중하며 민주화의 역사를 정진시킬 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
