브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 3일 이재명 더불어민주당 대선후보의 영입 1호 인사인 조동연 공동 상임선대위원장이 사퇴 의사를 밝혔다.
이에 대해 이재명 후보는 "언론이 너무 심하다"고 말했고, 송영길 대표도 "공직자도 아닌데 개인사까지 들춰내야 하나"라고 불쾌한 심기를 드러냈다.
이재명 후보는 이날 오후 전북 매타버스(매주 타는 버스) 출발 인사에서 조동연 선대위원장의 사퇴를 언급하며 "극히 일부 언론이기는 하나 전혀 근거 없는 얘기를 마구 '톱(top)'으로 보도해버리고 시간이 지나 사실이 아닌 것으로 밝혀지면 그냥 모른 척하는 건 너무 심하기는 하다"고 지적했다.
이 후보는 "언론 환경이 사실 좀 안 좋다"면서 "언론이 왜곡 보도하는 것뿐만 아니고 개혁 진보진영이 기본적으로 도전자의 입장에서 사회 기득권 진영과 한판승부를 하는 입장이기 때문에 사실 힘이 약하다"고 주장했다.
이 후보는 또한 "인사는 정말 중요한 일이다"라며 "인사가 만사라는 김영삼 대통령 말도 있는데 형식적인 검증도 중요한데 실력 있는 사람을 써야 한다. 우리가 종교 지도자를 뽑는 것이 아니지 않느냐"고 조동연 사퇴에 안타까운 마음을 내비치기도 했다.

송영길 대표도 이날 오전 국회에서 가진 입장 발표에서 "조동연 위원장이 저에게 사퇴 의사를 밝히며 제발 자기 아이들, 가족에 대한 공격을 멈췄으면 좋겠다는 마음을 표시했다"며 "일단 이번 주말 직접 만나 여러 대화를 나눠보고 판단할 생각"이라고 전했다.
송 대표는 조동연 위원장에 대해 "국회의원에 출마하거나 장관 후보자에 임명된 사람이 아니다"라고 전제하며 "97일동안 이재명 후보를 도와주기 위해 선대위에 참여한 사람이다. 공직 후보자도 아닌데 10년 전 이혼한 사람의 가족과 개인사를 공격해야 할 사안인지 국민께서 판단해주길 바란다"고 했다.
