브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 이재명 더불어민주당 대선후보는 16일 장남의 불법도박 논란에 대해 "제 아들의 못난 행동에 대해 실망했을 분들에 아비로서 아들과 함께 머리 숙여 사과드린다"고 밝혔다.
이재명 후보는 이날 오전 조선일보가 장남의 불법도박 의혹을 보도한데 대해 사과문을 통해 "일정 기간 유혹에 빠졌던 모양이다. 부모로서 자식을 가르침에 부족함이 있었다"며 이같이 말했다.
이재명 후보는 이날 서울 여의도 민주당 중앙당사에서 진행된 인터넷 언론사 합동 인터뷰에서도 "형사 처벌 사유가 된다면 당연히 선택의 여지 없이 책임져야 한다. 어떤 책임이라도 지겠다"고 말했다.
그는 '장남과 관련한 추가 문제가 나올 게 없냐'는 질문에 "제가 보기에는 지금까지의 사실도 매우 놀라웠다"며 "제가 알기로는 우리 가족을 밀착 취재한 게 6개월 이상 계속되고 있기 때문에 나름대로 있을 수 있는 문제를 최대한 찾아내고 있는 것 같다"고 답했다.
이어 그는 "(대통령 선거는) 국가의 운명을 책임질 사람을 국민들이 검증하는 것이기 때문에 지금 제 가족들에게는 안타까운 일일지라도 무한검증이 불가피하다고 생각한다"고 말했다.
이재명 후보는 또한 이별을 통보한 여자친구와 그 모친을 살해한 조카를 변론했던 과거와 관련해서도 "(변호를) 안하고 싶었는데 사실 일가 친척 중에 제가 유일한 법조인이라 피할 수가 없었다"고 말했다.
한편 이날 조선일보는 이재명 후보의 장남으로 추정되는 사람이 미국에 서버를 두고 있는 한 온라인 포커 커뮤니티 사이트의 게시판에 2019~2020년 2년여동안 200여개의 불법 도박 관련 경험글을 올렸다고 보도했다.
이와 관련 이 후보의 장남 동호씨도 입장문을 통해 "이번 일을 계기로 반성하며, 당사자로서 모든 일에 대해 책임을 지고, 속죄의 시간을 갖겠다. 다시 한번 머리 숙여 사과 드린다"고 했다.

Meanwhile, the Chosun Ilbo reported that a person believed to be the eldest son of candidate Lee Jae-myung posted more than 200 illegal gambling-related experiences over the two years from 2019-2020 on a bulletin board of an online poker community site with a server in the U.S.
