2022년 1월 13일, 지방자치법 전부개정법률의 발효와 함께 103만 창원시민의 염원이었던 창원특례시가 출범했다. 비로소 창원은 덩치에 맞는 옷을 입게 된 것이다. 창원시의회 더불어민주당 의원단은 창원특례시 출범을 환영하며, 창원특례시 지정을 위해 애써주신 분들의 노고에 감사드린다.

창원특례시는 이제 막 첫발을 떼었다. 그동안 아무도 가보지 않은 특례시라는 초유의 길을 가는 것이다. 창원특례시의 시작은 170여 개의 특례사무 및 특례권한 확보로 시작하지만 이것은 특례시의 완성된 모습이 아닌 특례시의 시작에 불과하다. 더 많은 특례사무를 발굴하고 더 강한 특례권한을 확보하면서 계속 만들어가야 한다.
