서일준 의원이 보건복지부로부터 제출받은 자료에 따르면, 2012년 1,025명이던 무연고 사망자는 꾸준히 증가하여 2021년에는 3,159명으로 3배 이상 증가하였으며, 이 기간 내 총 20,393명이 사망한 것으로 나타났다.
무연고 사망자를 지역별로 살펴보면 ▲서울 5,423명 ▲경기 4,151명 ▲부산 1,742명 ▲인천 1,587명 ▲경남 1,159명 순으로 무연고 사망자가 많은 것으로 드러났다.
