박하식 충남교육감 예비후보(전 충남삼성고등학교 교장)가 22일 언론 보도자료를 통해, "대한민국 교육은 우리 학생들이 K-세계인으로 성장할 수 있도록 이끌어주는 역할을 해야 한다"고 강조했다.
이날 박 예비후보는 "대한민국은 국제기구에서 공식적으로 인정하는 ‘선진국’ 반열에 올랐지만, 유독 교육분야는 변화를 거부하고 있다"며 이같이 밝혔다.
박 후보는 4차 산업혁명의 파도가 이미 가까이에 와 있음에도 불구하고 아무런 준비 없이 예전과 똑같은 마인드로 아이들을 교육하고 있기 때문이라고 분석했다.
또 “한국은 세계 일류를 넘어 초일류 기업을 보유하고 있고 문화예술 분야에서는 ‘K-트렌드’라는 큰 변화와 성과를 일궈냈다”며 “많은 분야가 변화와 발전을 거듭해 세계적인 수준이 됐지만 교육분야는 세계적인 흐름에 맞춰 변화를 꾀하지 못하고 있다”고 지적했다.
이어 “단지 성적이 좋아야 하고 좋은 대학을 보내야 한다는 예전 그대로의 교육 방식이 성공 공식이라고 믿는다면 아이들은 엉뚱한 방향으로 갈 수 있다”며 “이제는 냉철한 분석과 겸허한 반성, 지혜로운 통찰만이 우리 아이들을 혁신의 물결 위에 무사히 안착시킬 수 있다”고 강조했다.
그러면서 “우리의 아이들이 글로벌 무대에서 세계 인재들과 어깨를 나란히 하며 당당하게 자신의 꿈을 펼칠 수 있도록 하는 것이 바로 교육이 해야할 일”이라며 “우리 아이들이 ‘K-세계인’으로 성장할 수 있도록 충남교육을 세계 최고 수준의 교육, 즉 K-EDU를 실현하는 모델로 만들어 가겠다”고 말했다.
한편, 박 예비후보는 15년 전 출간한 첫 저서 ‘이젠 세계인으로 키워라’를 통해 이미 글로벌 인재 양성 프로젝트에 대해 고민해왔다.
