브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 이태규 국민의당 총괄선대본부장은 23일 이준석 국민의힘 대표가 자신에게 합당을 제안했다고 밝혔다.
합당 전제조건으로는 안철수 후보의 사퇴를 언급했고, 그렇게만 된다면 종로나 부산시장 등 보궐선거에서 공천을 줄 수 있다는 취지의 제안도 했다고 전했다.
이태규 본부장은 이날 오후 국회 의원회관 자신의 의원실에서 기자간담회를 열고, 이준석 대표와 2월 초 비공개로 나눈 대화 내용을 폭로했다.
이준석 대표는 이날 오전 "국민의당 인사로부터 안철수를 접게 하겠다는 제안을 받았다"며 배신행위를 한 인사들이 있다는 취지의 발언을 한 바 있다.
이에 대해 이태규 본부장은 "그 당사자가 누구인지 밝혀 이 대표의 발언이 거짓이 아니란 것을 밝히라"며 지난 대화 내용을 공개했다.
이 본부장은 "2월 초 제가 비공개로 이준석 대표를 만나서 합당 제안을 받았다"며 "안 후보가 깔끔하게 사퇴하고 이를 전제로 합당하면, 선거 후 국민의당 의사를 반영할 수 있는 특례 조항을 만들어 최고위원회, 조직강화특위, 공천심사위원회 참여를 보장하겠다는 제안이었다"고 했다.
이어 그는 "2월 11일 국민의힘 첫 '열정열차' 출발일에 도착역인 여수에서 윤석열 후보와 안철수 후보가 함께 내리면서 단일화 선언을 하는 빅 이벤트를 준비해놨다고 했다"면서 "여기에 응하면 안 후보의 정치적 기반을 닦는 획기적 전환점이 될 수 있다고 판단한다. 이게 안 후보에게 제안하는 내용이라고 (이준석 대표가) 말했다"고 전했다.
이 본부장은 또 "이 대표는 종로 보궐선거에 나간다면 공천할 수 있고, 그것이 아니더라도 지방선거 후에 부산시장 출마 문제로 민주당 의원 지역 선거가 빌 가능성이 있는데 여기에 나가셔도 안 후보의 정치를 위해 도움이 되지 않겠느냐고 본인 견해도 이야기했다"면서 "저는 당시 단일화 목표를 공동정부가 아닌 합당에 두고, 윤 후보가 아닌 당대표인 자신과 단일화 논의를 하자는 취지로 받아들였다"고 설명했다.
이 본부장은 "이 대표는 자신이 보기에 윤 후보는 인사 그립을 강하게 잡으려 하는 사람이고, 총리직을 노리는 중진들도 많아서 국민의당이나 안 후보가 생각하는 공동정부는 쉽지 않을 것이라 이야기했다"면서 "(이 대표가) 윤석열 측근들을 조심해야 한다는 개인적 조언도 해줬지만 공당의 대표임을 존중해서 그 내용까지는 밝히지 않겠다"고 했다.
