브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 김오수 검찰총장이 16일 "법과 원칙에 따라 본연의 임무를 충실하게 수행하겠다"며 정치권에서 제기되는 자진 사퇴 요구를 거부했다.
김 총장은 이날 출입기자단에 이같은 내용으로 입장문을 보냈다. 김 총장이 자신의 거취 입장을 표명한 것은 처음으로, 직접적인 표현은 없지만 사실상 사퇴하지 않겠다는 의사를 밝힌 것으로 보인다.
앞서 윤석열 당선인의 최측근으로 꼽히는 권성동 국민의힘 의원은 지난 15일 MBC라디오 '김종배의 시선집중'에서 "(김오수 총장) 본인이 지금까지 총장으로서 수사지휘를 제대로 했는지, 특히 대장동·백현동 사건 수사에 대해서 제대로 된 수사를 하고 있지 않다"고 지적했다.
권 의원은 이어 "지금까지와 같은 행태를 반복한다면 본인이 스스로 거취를 결정해야 한다고 개인적으로 생각한다"며 "다만 윤석열 당선인은 사퇴를 압박하거나 종용하지는 않을 것"이라고 했다.
한편, 김오수 총장은 지난해 6월 취임했으며 임기는 내년 5월까지다.
