고양시(시장 이재준)가 지난 23일 정부서울청사 통일부 대회의실에서 ‘통일정보자료센터’의 원활한 고양시 이전.건립을 위한 양 기관간 상호협력 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다.
협약에는 통일정보자료센터의 원활한 건립과 운영을 위해 고양시와 통일부 간 상호협력을 도모하고, 필요한 재원과 인력을 안정적으로 확보하는 등의 내용이 담겼다.

시는 지난해 5월 ‘공공기관 유치제안서’를 제출하고 10월 부지선정위원회 평가위원 현장설명회를 거쳐, 12월 20일 통일부로부터 최종 통일정보자료센터 건립부지 선정결과를 통보받았다.
고양시 대화동에 건립될 통일정보자료센터는 부지면적 6,600㎡, 건축연면적 8,000㎡ 내외로 부지매각, 설계 등을 거쳐 내년 하반기에 착공해 이르면 2025년 8월 완공될 예정이다.
통일정보자료센터는 통일?북한 전문 도서관(△장서 11.5만 여권 △디지털자료 4만 3천여종 △비도서 1만여개 등)으로 통일사료 수집, 보존, 전시와 다양한 통일 활동을 지원해 국민들의 이용편의성을 증진시킬 계획이다. 고양=박정호기자
