브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 송영길 전 더불어민주당 대표가 1일 서울시장 선거 출마를 공식 선언했다.
송영길 전 대표는 이날 자신의 페이스북에 "서울시민이 됐습니다"라고 운을 떼며 "오직 지방선거의 승리를 위해 당원으로서 직책과 직분을 가리지 않고 헌신하겠다"고 밝혔다.
그는 "지방선거가 다가오고 있고, 저에게 서울시장에 출마하라는 많은 분의 강한 요청의 목소리를 듣고 있다"며 "하지만 이것은 제 개인의 정치적 진로의 문제가 아니다. 대선 패배에 대한 당원과 지지자들의 아픔을 달래고, 어떻게 경쟁력 있는 후보를 내세워 승리할 수 있느냐의 문제"라고 강조했다.
이어 그는 "이런 문제의식과 그에 따른 고민의 시간 속에 "당에서 필요하다고 하면 언제라도 출마할 준비를 해달라"는 윤호중 비대위원장님의 말씀을 들었다"면서 "주소 이전 마감 시한이 오늘이다. 법정 조건이 당과 지지자들의 판단과 결정에 걸림돌이 되어서는 안 된다는 것과, 당과 지지자들의 선택 폭을 넓혀 드리기 위해서 주소를 서울 송파구로 옮겼다"고 전했다.
송 전 대표는 "이제 누가 서울에서 승리할 수 있을지 당과 당원과 지지자들께서 판단하는 시간이 될 것"이라며 "우리 당에는 훌륭한 분들이 많이 계신다. 저도 그분들과 함께 당의 결정에 충실히 따를 것이다. 객관적 근거가 없는 추대나 전략공천은 제 머릿속에 없다"고 전했다.
한편, 서울지역 민주당 20여명의 의원들은 전날 긴급회동을 갖고 송영길 전 대표의 서울시장 출마에 대해 반대 입장을 밝힌 바 있다. 이들은 송 전 대표가 인천에서만 5선을 했다는 점, 대선 상임선대위원장으로서 대선 패배 책임에서 자유롭지 못한 상태에서 출마한 점 등을 이유로 들었다.
