2022 고양 세계태권도품새선수권대회가 오는 21일부터 24일까지 킨텍스에서 열린다. 태권도에서 올림픽을 제외한 두 번째 상위등급 대회로 15년 만에 대한민국에서 열려 큰 관심을 모으고 있다.
이번 대회는 평화, 환경, 경제, 3개 키워드를 중심으로 펼쳐지며 62개국, 972명의 선수단(참가 신청 기준)이 고양시에 모여 품새 기량을 뽐낸다.
이재준 고양시장은 “우리나라 국기(國技)인 태권도의 위상을 다시 한번 드높이고, 대회가 원활하게 진행될 수 있도록 최적의 환경을 조성하는 데 만전을 기하겠다”고 말했다.
62개국, 972명 선수단 대회 참가 신청… 미디어아트로 물드는 개회식
고양 세계태권도품새선수권대회는 62개국에서 780명의 선수, 192명의 임원 등 기타 인력들이 등록을 마쳤다.
코로나19와 우크라이나 사태에도 불구하고 역대 대회 중 가장 많은 국가에서 참가 신청을 했다.

이번 12회 대회는 아시아 19개국, 유럽 21개국, 북미 3개국, 남미 11개국, 아프리카 7개국, 오세아니아 1개국 등 62개국에서 참가할 예정이다.
가장 많은 선수를 등록한 국가는 대한민국과 미국으로 각 69명, 스페인 62명, 이전 대회 개최국인 대만 50명 순으로 나타났다.
4일 간의 대회 경기와 개회식, 폐회식 모두 고양 킨텍스에서 진행된다. 개회식은 21일 오후 5시 ‘고양의 미래를 향해 달리다’를 주제로 열리며 미디어아트를 활용한 공연과, 세계태권도연맹(WT) 시범단의 축하 공연도 마련돼 있다.
참가국 기수단은 전통의상을 입고 입장하며 고양시민으로 구성된 WT 회원국 기수단도 함께 참여한다.
개회식 관람은 500석 지정좌석제로 운영할 계획이며 4월 중순 대회 홈페이지에서 신청할 수 있다.
대회 경기는 약 1,700석 좌석을 준비하고 있으며 별도 입장권 없이 무료로 관람 가능하다.
관람객은 발열 체크 및 손 소독제 사용 후 입장할 수 있고, KF94 이상 마스크 착용 등 방역 수칙을 준수해야 한다. 모든 경기는 세계태권도연맹(WT) 유튜브 채널에서 생중계된다.
4일 간 펼쳐지는 ‘품새’의 향연… 경기장 시설, 방역체계 구축 ‘이상무’
이번 대회는 공인품새 3개 종목(개인, 페어, 단체)과 자유품새 3개 종목(개인, 페어, 혼성)으로 경기가 펼쳐지며 선수들은 총 272개의 메달을 놓고 열전을 벌인다.

선수들이 최고의 기량을 발휘할 수 있도록 킨텍스 제2전시장 10홀에 5개 경기장과 8개 훈련장을 설치하고, 용도·대상별로 맞춤형 공간을 조성한다.
편의 시설로는 ▲선수들의 치료, 회복을 위한 ‘리프레시존’ ▲여가 시간에 이용하는 ‘인터넷존’ ▲음료, 다과가 있는 ‘카페테리아존’ 등이 마련된다. 귀빈·국제심판 라운지 등은 고양시 명소를 본떠 한옥 스타일의 공간으로 만든다.
또한 관람석 전 구역과 프레스 센터에 무선 인터넷(Wi-Fi) 환경을 제공하고, 관람객 주차 편의를 위해 무료 주차장을 마련한다.
한편 고양시는 문화체육관광부 및 질병관리청과 지속적으로 협의하고, 조직 위원회 내 코로나19 상황본부를 구성해 철저한 방역 시스템을 구축한다.
선수단은 전용 셔틀버스로 이동하며 경기장 입장 시에도 선수단은 1층, 관람객은 2층으로 동선을 철저히 분리한다. 각국 방역담당자를 지정해 매일 신속항원검사를 실시하는 등 선수들을 빈틈없이 관리하고, 비상상황 발생 시 신속하게 대응할 계획이다.
모두가 함께 즐기는 태권도 축제… 곳곳에서 다채로운 행사 열려
지난달 고양시는 SK텔레콤 메타버스 서비스 ‘이프랜드’와 협업해 ‘2022 고양 세계태권도품새선수권대회’ 홍보관을 열었다.

오는 14일부터 각자 캐릭터로 태권도 품새를 체험하는 모션 서비스가 제공된다.
대회 기간 동안 고양시에서는 다양한 행사들이 함께 열린다.
19일 오후 7시 30분 고양아람누리 아람극장에서는 대회를 기념하는 ‘K-pop 콘서트’를 개최한다.
또한 대회 기간에 맞춰 일정이 조정된 ‘2022 고양 국제꽃박람회’가 22일부터 26일까지 열려 분위기를 돋울 예정이다.
킨텍스 야외광장에서도 풍성한 부대행사가 마련돼 있다.
21일 오후 2시에는 KTA 국가대표시범단이, 23일과 24일 오후 2시에는 WT 시범단이 태권도 공연을 준비하고 있다.
