국민의힘 김태흠 국회의원(충남 보령ㆍ서천)이 13일 충남도청 브리핑룸에서 기자회견을 열고 6.1지방선거 충남도지사 출마를 공식 선언했다.
이날 김태흠 국회의원은 “사생취의(捨生取義)의 각오로 잘 사는 충남, 자랑스러운 충남의 새 시대를 열겠다”고 출마 배경을 설명했다.
김 의원은 “당이 제게 이번 지방선거의 승패를 좌우할 충남도지사 선거를 맡아달라고 요청했다. 전국 민심의 척도이자, 대한민국의 중심인 충남에서 승리해 완전한 정권교체를 이루어달라는 주문이었다”며 “무거운 책임감을 느끼며 선공후사(先公後私), 선당후사(先黨後私)의 정신으로 선거에 나서기로 결심했다”고 밝혔다.
그는 “지난 12년간 세 번의 선거에서 민주당 후보가 도민의 선택을 받았지만, 선거가 끝나면 말뿐이었던 공약은 잊혀졌고, 지역 발전은 기대만큼 되지 않았다”며 “도민들은 결과물을 만들어낼 도지사를 원한다. 잃어버린 12년, 무능한 더불어민주당 도정의 사슬을 끊어내야 한다”고 강조했다.
또 “반세기만에 처음으로 충남 출신 대통령이 탄생했다. ‘충남의 아들’ 윤석열이 정권교체를 했듯이, 김태흠이 도정교체를 해내겠다”며 “힘 있는 집권 여당의 프리미엄과 힘 있는 김태흠이 충남 발전에 필요한 것이 있다면 무엇이든 가져오겠다”고 포부를 드러냈다.

그러면서 “정치적 소신이 뚜렷하고 강한 추진력을 가진 ‘대체불가 김태흠’이 이제 ‘무색무취 충남’을 대한민국을 선도하는 ‘비교불가의 충남’으로 만들겠다”고 말했다.
김 의원은 이날 기자회견에서 ▲GTX(수도권광역급행철도) C노선 아산 연장 ▲내포신도시 완성(탄소중립클러스터 구축) ▲도내 화력발전소, LNG 복합발전소 전환 ▲육군사관학교 이전 확정 및 국립경찰병원 신설 ▲서해안 국제해양관광벨트 조성 ▲기업금융은행 설치(혁신창업 지원) 등 ‘7대 공약’도 발표했다.
한편 김 의원은 출마 기자회견에 앞서 지역 청년 50여 명과 함께 충청남도 보훈공원 충혼탑을 참배했으며, 출마선언 이후 첫 행보로 충남보훈회관을 찾아 보훈단체 관계자들과 간담회를 진행했다.
