신천지예수교회측은 최근 보도자료를 통해 “국가적인 혈액 부족 사태를 해결하기 위해 지난달 18일부터 1일까지 2주간 단체 헌혈에 나선 신천지예수교 증거장막성전(총회장 이만희·이하 신천지예수교회)이 당초 예상 인원 6천 명을 훌쩍 넘어선 1만8천478명의 성도가 단체헌혈을 완료했다. 단체헌혈에 참여한 총 인원은 2만7천26명”이라고 전하고 “대한적십자사 혈액관리본부에 따르면 1만 8천여 명의 헌혈은 혈액보유량 3.5일분에 해당하는 것으로, (혈액보유량 1일분은 전국 의료기관이 하루에 사용하는 평균 혈액양으로 1일 5,029개분) 이번 신천지예수교회 성도들의 자발적인 헌혈로 코로나19 오미크론 변이 확산으로 올해 초부터 지속된 국가적 혈액 수급난이 일거에 해소됐다. 실제로 신천지예수교회가 단체헌혈을 시작하기 전 국내 혈액 보유량은 3일분을 조금 넘기는데 그쳐 적정 보유량 5일분에 크게 모자라 혈액 수급에 비상이 걸린 상태였다. 신천지예수교회가 단체 헌혈을 마친 1일 기준 국내 혈액 보유량은 5.9일분으로 급상승한 것으로 집계됐다”고 밝혔다.
