파주시는 지난 3일 금릉역 앞 중앙광장에 봄꽃가든을 조성했다고 밝혔다.
봄꽃가든 조성은 지역에 활기를 불어넣고, 사계절 꽃으로 덮인 도시 환경을 조성하기 위해 기획됐으며, 지난달 28일부터 공작단풍, 에메랄드그린, 다알리아, 가자니아, 라벤더 등 2,500본을 식재했다.

수목, 초화류, 허브류를 혼합 식재해 지난 2년간 가을철 단일품종(꽃양배추)으로 식재하던 사항을 개선했다.
특히, 화분 내 저수층을 이용해 관수 주기를 늘려 특허를 받은 꽃박스를 이용했으며, 기간제근로자 등 자체 인력을 활용해 유지관리비용의 예산을 절감했다.
가을철에는 구절초와 같은 가을꽃과 그라스류 등을 보식할 예정이며, 연간 지속되는 정원을 조성해 계절별 특색있는 도시경관을 유지할 계획이다.

윤명섭 공원관리과장은 ”봄부터 겨울까지 사계절 내내 시민에게 쉼과 위로가 되는 도시정원으로 자리잡을 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다“고 말했다.
한편, 금릉역 중앙광장은 경의선 금릉역과 금촌지역 주요 상권 사이에 위치하고 있어 보행자가 많고, 2019년 금릉역 중앙광장 정비공사 이후 이용객이 급증해 만남과 소통의 장으로써 중요한 역할을 하고 있다.
