사진작가 김성은(한복외교문화원 원장)의 사진 전시회가 아리수 문화예술단, 한복외교문화원은주관으로 지난 5월2일부터 5월30일까지 서울시 종로구 인사동 ‘레스토랑 &갤러리 ’담’에서 열린다. 이 전시회는 아프리카 차드공화국 학교만들기 후원 작품기증 사진전이기도 하다.
‘한국의 갯벌’ 사진작가인 김성은 작가는 이 전시회에 대해 “우리나라의 서천갯벌, 신안갯벌, 고창갯벌, 보성 순천갯벌이 2021년에 유네스코 세계자연유산으로 지정됐다. 제44차 세계유산위원회에서 우리나라의 15번째 세계유산으로 ‘한국의 갯벌’이 등재됐다. 이어 유네스코 세계유산위원회의 권고에 따라 2025년까지 9개 갯벌을 추가해 ‘한국의 갯벌’ 2단계 확대 등재를 추진하기로 했다. 또한 등재 이후 세계유산 보존·관리 및 활용에 관한 특별법에 따라 보존·관리의 대상이 된다. 문화재청은 본격적인 통합보존관리체계를 마련하고 있다. 갯벌의 가치와 아름다움을 종합적으로 홍보할 수 있도록 기본계획을 수립하고, 홍보물‧영상 제작 등 다양한 방식으로 알릴 예정”이라고 설명하고 “2012년 인천 영종도 신도시 개발로 포크레인 작업이 시작될 때, 도시화로 사라져 가는 갯벌을 아쉬워하며, 안타까운 마음에 긴 장화를 신고 갯벌을 수없이 찾아가 ‘한국의 갯벌’을 카메라에 담기 시작했다”고 말했다.

김성은 작가는 “밀물과 썰물이 교차하는 갯벌에서 물의 흔적을 카메라에 담아보니, 물길이 빠져나간 흔적에 신비롭고 환상적인 세상 풍경이 담겨있어서. 가슴이 벅차오름을 느꼈습니다. 영종도 신도시개발로 갯벌을 메꿔 현재는 ‘갯벌이 그린 그림’을 더 이상 볼 수 없어 몹시 안타깝습니다.”면서 “사진을 찍으면서 갯벌의 소중함과 자연 생태 보존의 중요성을 더 느끼게 되었죠. 갯벌에 살고 있는 게, 조개등과 철새들이 포크레인에 밀려 죽거나 삶의 터전이 없어진다고 생각하니 마음이 더 아팠습니다.”고 설명했다.
‘갯벌이 그린 그림’은 캔버스에 그린 그림으로 착각할 정도로 입체적이며 형상과 색감, 질감이 다채롭고 선명하다. 아크릴 물감으로 나무와 숲을 표현한 풍경 같기도 하고, 매우 역동적이고 강인한 불을 뿜어내는 용, 저수지 옆 거북이의 형상은 자연의 힘이 만들어낸 오묘하고 신비스런 현상이다.
소복히 눈 내리는 겨울 풍경, 눈보라 휘날리는 언덕위 나무들, 좋은 사람과 걷고 싶은 눈 쌓인 오솔길, 나무들의 강한 생명력의 표현, 바닷 속 해초들의 모습, 아름다운 여인의 얼굴 옆모습, 거인의 발바닥, 아픈 지구에서 몸부림치는 나무들 등 일상적인 시선으로는 만나기 어려운 즉 실재하는 풍경이라기보다 조형적인 풍경이 펼쳐진다.

영월의 한반도 지형에 무궁화 꽃을 함께 찍은 사진으로, 주한 각국 대사관, 학교와 군부대에 무궁화한복을 입고 사진을 기증하는 등 한복외교문화원 원장으로도 활동하고 있다.
