파주시는 남북농업협력사업 일환으로 시험재배 작물의 북한지역에서의 적응성 확인을 위해 24일 장단면 거곡리 평화농장에서 시험재배 작물 모내기 및 콩파종 행사를 실시했다고 밝혔다.
이번 모내기 및 콩파종 행사는 파주시장, 경기도농업기술원 소득자원연구소장, 파주장단콩연구회장 등 40여명이 참여했다.

주요 시험재배 작물은 ▲경기도 육성 조중생종 벼 16계통 ▲경기도 육성 콩 4품종 ▲가축의 뿔과 발굽 등을 활용한 축각분 유기질 비료를 활용한 벼 이다.
최종환 파주시장은 “남북관계 전망이 여전히 불투명하고 대북제재가 유효한 현실이지만 현 시점에서 가능한 남북농업협력사업을 추진하며 북측과 직접 교류할 수 있는 때를 준비 중이다.”라며 “이번 모내기와 콩파종 행사가 씨앗이 되어 향후 한반도 평화시대라는 풍성한 결실을 맺기를 바란다”고 말했다.
파주시 남북농업협력사업은 북측 기후와 유사한 평화농장에서 대표 식량작물인 벼와 콩을 시험재배하여 생산성과 적응성을 검증하고 향후 전면적인 남북농업협력사업에 대비하기 위한 사업으로, 대북제재 하에서도 가능한 남북교류협력사업으로 통일부의 지자체 협력사업 사전 승인을 받은 바 있다.
파주시 농업기술센터는 2019년 장단면 거곡리 부지 149,278㎡(약 45,235평)를 국방부로부터 매입하여 2020년 평화농장을 조성하였고, 장단콩 늦서리태 포장, 약용작물 유전자원 포장, 기능성 상품개발을 위한 천년초 포장 등 다양한 특화작물을 집중연구하며 연구 전문성을 확보하고 있으며, 평화농장의 일부를 남북농업협력사업 부지로 활용하고 있다. 파주=박정호기자
