파주시는 6월 6일 파주시 현충탑에서 나라와 겨레를 위해 목숨을 바친 호국영령의 명복을 빌고 순국선열 및 전몰장병의 희생과 호국정신을 기리는 ‘제67회 현충일 추념식’을 거행했다고 밝혔다.
이날 추념식에는 파주시장과 국회의원, 보훈단체 회원 및 유가족, 도·시의원, 기관단체장, 학생 등 300여명이 참석한 가운데 국가를 위해 희생·공헌하신 호국영령들의 충의와 위훈을 추모했다.

추념식은 오전 10시 전국적으로 동시에 울리는 묵념 사이렌 취명에 맞춰 순국선열과 호국영령에 대한 묵념을 올리고 조총, 헌화 및 분향, 추념사, 헌시 낭독, 현충일 노래 제창 순으로 엄숙하고 경건하게 진행됐다.
최종환 파주시장은 추념사를 통해 “현충탑을 비롯한 기념비와 전공비에 살아 숨 쉬는 값진 희생의 산 역사들이 세월의 풍상 속에 희미해지지 않도록 선열들의 고귀한 희생을 널리 선양해 해마다 추모의 분위기가 이어지도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다. [파주=박정호기자]
