신천지예수교 증거장막성전(이하 신천지예수교회‧총회장 이만희)측은 보도자료에서 “6월14일 ‘2022년 헌혈자의 날’을 맞아 헌혈을 통해 생명나눔운동에 앞장선 공로로 대한적십자사 회장 표창을 수상했다. 보건복지부가 주최하고 대한적십자사가 주관하는 이날 행사는 헌혈의 중요성을 알리고 헌혈자에게 존경과 감사를 전하기 위해 마련됐다. 특히 이번 헌혈자의 날은 지난해 12월 혈액관리법 개정 후 국가기념일로 지정된 첫 행사”라면서 “'세계 헌혈자의 날'은 생명나눔운동에 동참해 준 헌혈자에게 감사의 마음을 전하기 위해 세계보건기구(WHO)와 국제적십자사연맹(IFRC), 국제수혈학회(ISBT), 국제헌혈자조직연맹(FIODS) 등 4개 국제기구가 2004년 공동으로 제정한 국제적인 기념일”이라고 설명했다.
대한적십자사 서울사무소에서 열린 이날 행사에는 보건복지부 이기일 제2차관과 임영애 혈액관리위원장을 포함, 대한적십자사 신희영 회장과 장예순 부회장, 이상천 사무총장, 조남선 혈액관리본부장 등이 참석했으며 유튜브 실시간 동시 송출 및 메타버스 행사장에서 비대면 행사로 진행됐다.
신천지예수교회축은 “지난 4월 18일부터 5월 4일까지 총 18일간 18,819명의 성도가 헌혈을 완료하면서 오미크론 확산으로 인한 혈액수급난 해소에 도움을 줬다. 대한적십자사 혈액관리본부에 따르면 1만 8천여 명의 헌혈은 혈액보유량 3.5일분에 해당한다. 아울러 성도들의 헌혈증을 모아 총 32,324장의 헌혈증을 대한적십자사에 기부했다”고 밝혔다.
