파주시는 최근 지속적인 가뭄 극복을 위해 농업용수 확보에 총력을 기울이고 있다고 밝혔다.
이달 9일까지의 강수량은 지난해 같은 기간 강수량 440.3mm에 비해 29% 수준인 127.2mm에 불과해 농업용수 부족으로 인한 가뭄피해가 예상되고 있다.
이에 파주시는 가뭄피해를 극복하기 위하여 양수장 및 저수지를 가동해 부족한 농업용수를 공급하고 있다.
특히, 가뭄이 극심한 통일촌 일대에 물웅덩이 59개소를 확보하고, 재난관리기금 1억원을 투입해 공공관정 5개소를 개발 완료해 농업용수를 공급해 적기에 모내기를 완료했다.

또한, 대성동지역 농업용수 공급을 위해 백연리에 위치한 대성동양수장을 5월 하순부터 가동해 농업용수 공급이 차질 없이 진행되고 있다.
김현철 농업기술센터소장은 “파주시는 물 공급과 가뭄대비에 총력을 기울이고 있다”라며, “앞으로도 지역주민들의 다양한 의견을 수렴해 열악한 영농 지역이 없도록 영농환경개선사업(수리시설 정비)을 적극 추진하겠다”고 말했다.
