고양시가 행정안전부가 주관하는 2022년 자전거도시 브랜드화 지원사업 공모 사업 대상지로 선정됐다.
시는 이번 선정으로 국비 2억 원을 확보하여 명품 자전거도시를 향한 사업을 추진한다.
시는 올해 하반기부터 본격적으로 사업을 진행할 예정이라고 밝혔다.
국가 공모사업인 자전거도시 브랜드화 지원 사업은 자전거 이용 활성화 및 지역포용성 제고를 통해 지역에 활력을 불어넣는 맞춤형 자전거 브랜드 정책 지원 사업이다.
행정안전부는 전국 자치단체를 대상으로 공모 신청을 받은 후 사업선정 위원회의 1차 서류심사와 2차 컨설팅 심사를 거쳐 고양시를 포함한 최종 3개 지자체를 선정했다.

이번에 선정된 고양시의 자전거 사업은 어린이자전거연습장(공원) 조성사업이다.
고양시의 자전거 기반시설이 확충되면서 자전거를 이용하는 시민이 늘어난 만큼 자전거 교통사고 발생을 사전에 예방하기 위해서다.
시는 유아.어린이를 위한 전문적이고 올바른 자전거 안전 교육을 위한 자전거연습장(공원)을 조성하여 안전한 자전거 문화 정착을 위한 경기북부 어린이자전거교통안전교육 거점을 설치할 계획이다.
시 관계자는 “어린이 등 처음 자전거를 배우는 시민을 위한 자전거연습장(공원)을 조성하여 안전사고 예방 및 안전한 자전거 문화 정착에 기여하고 체험.교육.여가 등 테마공간도 조성해 자전거 문화 컨텐츠로 활용하려고 한다”며 “자전거도시 브랜드화 사업을 위한 시민 아이디어 및 의견을 적극 반영할 예정”이라고 말했다.
