[브레이크뉴스=이성용기자] 진해지역 주민에게 수돗물을 공급하는 석동정수에서 깔따구 유충으로 추정되는 물질이 발견되면서 창원시가 원인 파악 및 긴급 대응책 마련에 나섰다.
창원시는 지난 7일 오전 10시경 창원시 3개 정수장 중 하나인 석동 정수장에서 깔따구 유충으로 추정되는 물질이 발견됐다고 밝혔다.
석동 정수장 13개 정수처리 공정 중 활성탄여과지와 정수지에서 활동성이 없는 유충 2마리가 발견된 것이다.
석동정수장에서 생산된 수돗물은 용원지역을 제외한 진해 지역 6만5300세대, 15만300여명에게 공급되고 있다.
창원시는 유충을 발견한 시점부터 현재까지 정확한 발생 경위와 원인을 파악하기 위해 석동정수장의 취수원인 성주수원지 원수와 낙동강 본포원수 확인작업에 나섰다.
확인 결과 본포원수에서 부유하는 유충알이 관찰됐으며, 최근 30도 이상의 높은 수온으로 인해 정수과정 중 침전지 바닥에 침강된 알이 침전지 상부로 부상해 여과지로 흘러간 것으로 추정했다.
이에 창원시는 유충발생 원인 파악과 동시에 환경부의 유출발생 예방 및 대응방안 매뉴얼에 따라 7가지의 긴급 조치를 취했다.
시는 유충의 불활성화율을 높이기 위해 염소 투입을 강화했으며, 침전기능 강화를 위해 보조제인 폴리아민을 추가 투입했다.
또한, 유충 제거를 위해 잔류염소 2ppm인 물을 사용해 급속여과지 10개소, 활성탄여과지 6개소를 역세척하는 한편 침전지 2개소를 청소했다.
시는 석동정수장 외에 대산정수장, 칠서정수장에 대해서도 유충 발생 여부를 확인한 결과 아무 문제가 없는 것으로 확인됐다.
시 관계자는 "유충이 발견된 수돗물 음용시의 유해성에 대해 국내에 서식하는 깔따구 유충으로 인한 피해 사례가 아직 없었다"며 "하지만 해당 지역주민들에게 음용시에는 끓여먹을 것을 당부한다"고 전했다.
한편, 창원시는 향후 수돗물 유충(추정) 발생 문제에 대한 재발 방지 대책으로 이번 석동 정수장 급수대상 지역 각 동마다 매일 1회 이상 10여가구를 무작위로 표본 추출하여, 수돗물의 유충 유무 및 수질상태를 지속적으로 모니터링 해 그 진행상황을 시민들에게 알려드릴 계획이라고 밝혔다.
또한 최대한 빠른시일 내에 안경원 제1부시장을 위원장으로 하고 수질평가위원 등 외부 민간 전문가들로 구성된 ‘특별조사위원회’를 꾸려 이번 유충 발생의 원인 규명과 동시에 창원·마산·진해 3개 지역의 상수체계 전반을 재점검하여 근본적으로 개선시켜 나갈 계획이다.
