파주시(시장 김경일)는 전국 최초로 군 복무 병사들의 건강하고 안전한 병영생활을 위한 ‘파주 희망캠프’ 사업을 추진하고 있다고 밝혔다.
전체 인구의 7%가 군인인 파주시의 특수시책인 ‘파주 희망캠프’는 2015년부터 미술 치료 및 인성교육을 지원해 오고 있으며, 다양한 프로그램을 운영해 참여율과 만족도가 높은 편이다.
‘파주 희망캠프’ 사업은 부적응 병사를 대상으로 일대일 상담 및 체험 프로그램을 진행하고, 일반 병사들에게는 진로 상담 등 멘토링 역할을, 가정 형편이 어려운 병사들에게는 복지 연계를 지원한다.
지난해에는 코로나19 감염병 확산으로 비대면 온라인 교육을 운영했으며, 7월 20일에는 군 장병의 원활한 일상생활 지속을 위해 1사단에서 테라리움, 압화부채 만들기 등 원예체험 프로그램을 진행했다.

아울러, 올해 하반기부터는 군 장병 외에도 20세 미만 보호 관찰대상자(116명)도 대상자로 확대해 직업 훈련을 지원할 예정이다.
이태희 복지정책과장은 “‘파주 희망캠프’ 사업을 통해 군 장병뿐만 아니라 보호관찰 대상자들의 일상생활도 원활하게 지속되길 바란다”고 말했다.
