[브레이크뉴스=주윤한 기자] 산청군이 철쭉과 별, 바람을 주제로 하는 ‘산청 황매산 자연휴양림 조성사업’을 추진한다.
산림청은 지난 2월15일 철쭉 자생군락과 억새로 이름난 산청 황매산을 자연휴양림으로 지정·고시했다.
이에 산청군은 철쭉 군락지를 보존·관리하는 한편 황매산의 대표적인 경관 자원인 철쭉과 별, 바람을 활용해 특색 있는 자연휴양림을 조성할 방침이다.
조성사업은 자연 경관 보존을 최우선 가치로 두고 훼손을 최소화 하며, 산청 황매산의 우수한 산림자원을 활용해 새로운 아이디어를 반영해 자연휴양림을 조성한다는 구상이다.
산청 황매산은 코로나19 유행 이전 연간 60만명 이상이 찾는 명소로 이름나 있다. 자연휴양림이 조성되면 방문객의 편의증진은 물론 지역경제 활성화에도 기여할 것으로 기대된다.
21일 현장을 찾은 이승화 산청군수는 “우리 군은 산림면적 비율이 77.3%로 경남 도내에서 가장 높다. 특히 지리산과 황매산 등 우수한 산림 자원을 갖고 있다”며 “산림휴양시설 확충과 보완사업에 힘써 우리 산청군이 산림 6차산업의 선진도시가 될 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
한편 산청군은 그동안 산림휴양시설 확충을 위해 힘써왔다. 이번 황매산 자연휴양림 외에도 동의보감촌의 한방자연휴양림과 단성 묵곡생태숲, 둔철 생태숲 등이 대표적이다.
특히 올해에는 동의보감촌 상부 지역에 ‘산청 치유의 숲’이 개장될 예정이다.
태백산맥의 마지막 준봉인 산청 황매산은 고려시대 호국 선사 무학대사가 수도를 행한 장소로 알려져 있다. 산청군 차황면 법평리 산 1번지 황매봉을 중심으로 동남쪽으로 뻗은 기암절벽이 형성되어 있어 작은 금강산이라 불릴 만큼 아름답다.
황매산은 봄에는 진달래와 철쭉이 산천을 분홍빛으로 수놓고, 가을에는 억새가 하얗게 물결치며 은빛 파도를 이룬다.
