[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 창원 석동정수장 유충규명 특별조사위원회(이하 특조위)가 26일 프레스센터에서 조사경과에 대해 브리핑을 갖고 현재까지 명확한 결론은 도출하지 못했다고 밝혔다.
이날 특조위 백도현 부위원장(창원대 생명보건학부 교수)는 이번 사태의 가장 중요한 쟁점인 유충 발생의 원인으로 석동정수장 원수를 사용하는 낙동강 본포취수장의 원수 검사에서 유충(깔따구)이 유입된 것으로 보는 외부적 유입 가능성과 정수장 침전지, 여과지 등 다수의 시설물에서 동시다발적으로 발생한 것으로 보는 내부적 요인에서 기인된 가능성 등 복합적인 요인들로 인한 것으로 위원들간에 합의했으나 명확한 결론은 도출하지 못했다고 발표했다.
또한, 이번 석동정수장의 유충 발생 사례가 활성탄 여과지 한곳에서만 발생한 인천과는 전혀 다른 양상을 띤 사례라는 것에 대한 위원들 모두의 공통된 인식도 있었다고 했다.

특조위는 또 "사태수습 과정 중 수돗물 생산과정 전반을 살펴본 바 여과지 역세척, 급속여과지 여과재 굴상·세척, 활성탄 교체 등의 긴급조치를 통해 생산과정이 정상화 단계임을 확인했다"며 "정수지와 배수지에 다중 여과망이 설치된 이후 수일간의 모니터링 결과 현재 유충이 발견되지 않는 깨끗한 수돗물이 공급되고 있는 것도 확인했다"고 밝혔다.
특조위는 지난 10일 10명의 민간 전문가와 학계, 시민단체, 시의원으로 구성돼 유충발생 원인 추적 및 재발방지 대책 마련을 위한 개별위원 조사 활동과 6차례 합동회의를 가진 바 있다.
또한 석동정수장 현장 조사와 함께 정수생산 공정 확인과 정수처리 전 공정에 대한 기술적·환경적 검토를 진행했다.
특조위는 또 국내외 유사사례 분석 결과를 바탕으로 창원시 상황과 비교 분석해 보완이 필요한 점과 개선 대책안도 논의하고 있다.
