[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 창원특례시는 8·15 광복77주년 기념 제19회 배중세 애국지사 추념식을 상남단정공원에서 거행했다.
단정(丹丁) 배중세 애국지사는 1895년 창원군 상남면 토월리에서 태어나 독립운동을 위해 싸우다가 순국하신 애국지사이다.
배중세 지사는 의열단 단원으로 동양척식회사 등을 폭발하려다 계획이 탄로 나 체포되어 옥고를 치렀으며, 석방 후에는 독립운동 자금 조달 등 활발한 독립운동을 펼치다 1944년 1월 23일 대구 형무소에서 향년 49세의 나이에 순국했다.
대한민국 정부는 선생의 공훈을 기려 1963년 대통령 표창, 1977년 건국 포장, 1990년 건국훈장 애국장을 추서했다.
이날 행사는 창원문화원(배원진)이 주최하고 배중세 순국지사 선양회(회장 배종식)가 주관하는 행사에 창원특례시 복지여성보건국장과 국회의원, 시의원, 창원교육지원청 교육장, 국가보훈처 경남동부지청 등 그 외 기관 및 단체장, 유족과 시민 등 200여명이 참석한 가운데 진행됐다.
제16회 백일장 공모전은 광복절 기념 배중세 지사를 추념하고 청소년들의 나라사랑 정신을 드높이고자 7월 1∼15일 초·중·고등학생 및 동등한 연령 916명이 참석한 가운데 치러졌다.
출품작 중 심사를 거쳐 우수작품으로 선정된 48명의 청소년에게는 상장을 수여해 향토 애국지사를 널리 알리고 창원사랑 나라사랑의 마음을 일깨우고자 했다.
김종필 복지여성보건국장은 “올해 광복77주년을 맞이하여 제19회 단정 배중세 애국지사 순국 추념식이 개최된 것을 매우 뜻깊게 생각하며, 창원에서 태어나서 자라는 청소년들이 다양한 광복절 기념행사와 추념식을 통해 조국의 독립과 국권 회복을 위해 목숨을 아끼지 않으신 애국지사들의 숭고한 정신을 기리는 계기가 되었으며 한다.”며 “창원특례시는 순국선열과 호국영령들의 숭고한 뜻에 대한 보답으로 그들의 헌신을 기억하기 위해 적극적으로 시정을 운영하겠다.”고 밝혔다.
