[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 박완수 경상남도지사와 허구연 한국야구위원회(KBO) 총재는 17일 도내 야구 전지훈련을 위한 인프라 구축 등 현안사업을 논의하며, 경남의 야구 발전에 상호 협력하기로 했다.
이날 허구연 총재는 기후가 온화한 경남의 강점을 살려 동계 전지훈련을 치를 수 있는 남해안벨트 조성사업을 제안했다.
이는 도내 남해안 지역에 2면 이상의 야구장 조성과 함께 실내 연습장, 웨이트 트레이닝장 등 야구 인프라를 확충하는 데 도의 적극적인 관심과 지원을 요청했다.
경남도는 야구장 인프라를 확충하게 되면 동계 전지훈련 방문 뿐 아니라 야구와 관련된 행사를 유치해 야구팬들의 지역 방문을 유도하고 지역 홍보를 통해 대외적인 인지도를 강화하며 지역경제 활성화에 기여할 수 있다고 내다봤다.
박완수 도지사는 “경남 야구 발전과 활성화를 위한 인프라 확충과 사업 추진에 도에서 적극적인 관심을 가지도록 하겠다”며 “도내 야구 발전이 지역경제에 도움이 될 수 있도록 KBO와 지속적으로 협력하겠다”고 밝혔다.
한편, 진주시와 KBO는 지난달 11일 남해안 벨트 조성사업을 위한 업무협약을 체결한 바 있다.
현재 도내에는 15개 시군 30개소의 야구장이 있으며, 진주·통영·고성·밀양 등 4개 시군에 야구장 조성사업을 추진 계획하고 있다.
