브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 최재형 국민의힘 혁신위원장은 22일 "대통령이라는 자리는 모든 것을 다 담을 수 있는 큰 그릇이다. 정권교체, 정권 재창출 등 지향점이 같다면 대통령이 품는 게 국민의 지지와 외연 확장에 도움이 될 것"이라고 말했다.
최재형 위원장은 이날 MBC 라디오 '김종배의 시선집중'과의 인터뷰에서 '윤석열 대통령이나 윤핵관(윤 대통령 핵심 관계자)이 이준석 전 대표를 품었어야 했나'라는 질문에 이같이 답했다.
그는 윤리위가 이 전 대표 발언을 문제삼으며 추가 징계 가능성을 보인데 대해서도 부정적으로 봤다. 그는 "추가 징계 논의가 된 게 비대위 출범 이후 기자회견 하고 언론에 계속 본인 주장을 강하게 얘기했기 때문인데 그 언행이 절제되지 않고 거친 부분이 많아 사태를 악화시킨 부분이 있다"면서도 "하지만 정치 행위가 말로 주로 하는 것인데 정치적 의도를 가지고 한 발언에 대해 제재를 가하는 건 신중해야 한다"고 말했다.
이어 "누가 봐도 해당행위다라고 하면 몰라도 정치적인 발언에 대해 제재를 가하는 건 좀 더 신중하게 접근해야 한다. 오히려 큰 그림을 봤을 땐 징계와 제재에 신중히 해야 도움 될 것"이라고 징계 반대 입장을 드러냈다.
최 위원장은 혁신위 내부에서 논의되고 있는 공천 개혁안에 대해선 "자격심사와 전략공천, 경선 관리를 분리하는 안을 논의하고 있다"면서 "자격 심사, 부적격 전과나 탈당 경력 등 자격 심사를 위한 별도 기구 구성이 어떤지에 대한 논의가 오가고 있다"고 전했다.
그는 "현재 공관위가 모든 권한을 행사하고 있는데, 기능을 분리해 서로 견제할 수 있는 모양을 갖추면 공천 객관성을 높이는데 도움이 될 것이라는 논의가 있다"며 "공천 안건을 다루는 인재소위에서 올렸는데 전체회의에서 통과할지는 회의 결과를 봐야 알 것"이라고 했다.
민감한 문제인 '공천 룰' 개혁을 놓고 당내 갈등이 커질 수 있다는 우려에 대해서 "기우"라고 단언하며 "예측 가능한 시스템과 평가를 객관화할 수 있는 자료를 축적하자는 데에 방점이 있다. 당내에서 크게 반발할 이유가 없다"고 일축했다.
