[브레이크뉴스=주윤한 기자] 거창군은 31일 군청 중회의실에서 구인모 군수, 송강훈 거창군 이장자율협의회장을 비롯해 전 읍·면 이장자율협의회장, 읍·면장 등 40여명이 참석한 가운데 ‘인구구조 변화 가속화 대응 보고회’를 개최했다.
거창군은 이날 보고회에서 읍·면의 인구 상황을 공유하고 거창군 이장자율협의회와 제1호 인구감소 민·관 공동대응 협약을 체결했다.
군은 경남도 인구 상위 3개 군(함안·거창·창녕)과 비교했을 때 2018년 대비 인구 감소폭이 가장 적으나, 소폭이지만 지속적으로 감소되고 있는 상황에서 6만 인구가 무너지는 것에 대한 우려를 극복하기 위해 보고회를 갖고 전 이장 2인 인구 늘리기 프로젝트를 추진하게 됐다.
송강훈 이장자율협의회장은 “인구구조의 변화는 경제성장·고용·복지·교육·재정 등 사회 전반에 영향을 미치는 중대한 문제이다”며 “일선의 현장에서 봉사하는 이장이 발 벗고 나서서 인구 늘리기를 적극 추진하고, 전입자가 지역에서 안정적으로 정착해 지속 가능한 인구 유입의 새 흐름을 안착시키는데 최선을 다 하겠다”고 말했다.

구인모 거창군수는 “초저출산 장기화, 생산연령인구 감소 확대 등 인구구조 변화가 예상보다 빠르게 진행되면서 인구문제 대응의 골든타임도 빠르게 줄어들고 있다”며 “인구감소 문제에 민·관이 함께 경각심을 가지고 대응 방안을 마련해야 한다는 취지에서 전 이장 2인 인구늘리기 프로젝트를 기획하게 되었다”고 밝혔다.
거창군은 2018년에는 함안군·창녕군 다음으로 도내 군부 중 세 번째로 인구가 많았으나, 2020년 이후에는 창녕군을 넘어서 도내 군부 중 두 번째로 인구가 많은 군으로 현재까지 유지하고 있다.
군은 앞으로 ‘도내 군부 인구수 1위’를 목표로 정책방향을 설정해여 인구 증가 시책 등을 추진해갈 방침이다.
한편 지난해 우리나라 합계 출산율은 0.81명, 출생아수는 26만 600명으로 역대 최저치를 기록했으며, 거창군도 합계 출산율은 0.92명, 출생아수는 204명으로 이와 별반 다르지 않은 상황이다.
