파주시는 ‘활력경제 미래도약’이라는 시정전략 추진을 위해 에너지 신사업 발굴을 위한 발판을 마련했다.
시는 지난 2일 한국남부발전과 파주시 미래에너지 보급 확대를 위해 ‘파주시?한국남부발전 신재생에너지 발전사업 공동개발’ 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다.

이날 협약식에는 김경일 파주시장과 이승우 한국남부발전 사장이 참석한 가운데 양 기관은 파주시의 활력경제를 위한 미래 전략사업으로 에너지 신사업 추진에 힘을 모으기로 했다.
주요 협약 내용으로는 ▲파주시 공공 유휴부지를 활용한 신재생에너지 발전시설 구축 ▲파주형 에너지자립(RE100) 산업단지 인프라 조성 ▲농촌상생형 등 연료전지 융·복합 사업 ▲미래에너지 교육을 통한 미래 인재 육성 등으로, 협약 내용을 바탕으로 파주시 실정에 맞는 맞춤형 신재생에너지 사업을 추진해 나갈 예정이다.

최근 국제정세로 인해 에너지산업이 미래 핵심 산업으로 부각되고 있으며, 파주시는 이러한 인식이 퍼지기 전부터 선제적으로 에너지 분야 사업을 추진해왔다.
전국 최초로 농촌상생형 연료전지 발전사업을 월롱면 도내리에 추진해 주민들에게 도시가스 인프라를 보급했으며, 5년 연속 한국에너지공단의 신재생에너지 융?복합지원 공모사업에 선정돼 시민들이 저렴하게 신재생에너지를 이용할 수 있도록 했다.
