[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 제11호 태풍 힌남노 북상에 창원시가 제2의 대형피해는 있을 수 없다는 피해예방 대책에 1㎞ 차수벽이 등장했다.
지난 2003년 태풍 매미로 막대한 인명·재산 피해가 발생하면서 조성된 방재언덕 차수벽(遮水壁)이 제11호 태풍 힌남노 북상과 함께 가동됐다.
당시 태풍 매미는 고성을 거쳐 남해안 일대를 강타하면서 마산합포구 월영동 등 일대 해안가는 해일에 물바다가 되면서 18명이 숨졌고, 이재민 9200여명, 재산피해 5900여억원이 발생했다.

이후 해양수산부 등은 이곳 월파에 의한 침수를 예방하기 위해 약 500억원을 들여 해변 일부를 매립한 뒤 높이 3m 가량의 방재언덕과 기립식 차수벽과 투명강화유리벽을 세웠다.
이 차수벽은 2018년 12월 준공 후 두번째 가동으로 지난해 9월 태풍 ‘찬투’ 때 해안가 저지대 피해 예방을 위해 차수벽이 가동된 바 있다.
이에 5일 오전 11시 창원시 마산합포구 월영동 합포수변공원 산책로에 있던 바닥이 벽처럼 서기 시작했다. 높이 2m, 너비 10m의 벽 20개는 30분 만에 모두 세워졌다. 기존에 늘상 고정으로 서있는 강화유리벽까지 더하면 길이 1㎞의 성벽이 완성됐다.
