[브레이크뉴스=이성용 기자] 창원특례시는 추석 연휴 기간에 플라스틱 꽃 사용 근절 홍보를 위해 창원공원묘원·천자봉공원묘원·진해천자봉공원묘원 등 3곳에서 생화무료 나눔행사를 실시한다.
플라스틱 꽃은 우리나라에서 연간 2천톤 이상 수입되며, 99% 이상이 중국산이 차지하고 있다.
수입된 플라스틱 꽃은 대부분 합섬섬유, 플라스틱, 철심으로 재활용이 불가하고 썩지 않아 소각 처리되는 실정이다.
또한, 묘소에 놓여진 플라스틱 꽃은 바람에 부서져 미세플라스틱이 되어 토양오염 등 환경에 해를 끼치고 있다.
이런 가운데 창원특례시의 경우 매년 약 90톤의 플라스틱 꽃이 공원묘원에서 발생되고 있다.
이에 플라스틱 꽃의 사용근절을 위해 지난 7월 경남도에서는 도내 30개 공원묘원을 대상으로 친환경추모문화 협약을 체결했다.
시는 8월 창원공원묘원과 천자봉공원묘원을 방문해 플라스틱 꽃 사용근절 추진방법 및 일정 등을 협의해 올해 추석에는 플라스틱 꽃 사용 금지 권고 후 2023년부터는 본격적으로 시행하기로 했다.
생화무료 나눔행사는 9일 오전 9시30부터 천자봉공원묘원에서 창원특례시 꽃집연합회, 경남 절화연구회에서 생화 300단을 무료배부한다.
추석당일 10일은 영남화훼원예농협조합에서 기증해 오전 10시부터 창원공원묘원은 1,000단, 천자봉공원묘원에서는 3,750단의 생화를 무료 지급할 계획이다.
시는 기존 플라스틱 꽃 판매상들의 재고 소진 등을 감안해 플라스틱 꽃 사용을 강제로 금지하지는 않고 자발적으로 참여할 수 있도록 홍보를 병행하고 있다.
올해 설명절부터 김해 소재 공원묘원에서는 플라스틱 꽃을 사용하지 않고 운영되고 있으며, 창원시립 상복공원은 최초 운영시부터 봉안시설내 생화만을 사용하도록 홍보해 운영하고 있다.
김태순 자원순환과장은 “조상님들 묘 헌화에 중금속, 미세플라스틱 등으로 환경을 오염시키는 플라스틱 꽃을 헌화하지 마시고, 우리 농업인이 재배하는 생화로 마음을 전하시기 바란다”고 당부했다.
