[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시는 시청 기업인의 방에서 KT 경남법인단과 ‘2050 탄소중립 실현을 위한 업무협약’을 체결했다고 27일 밝혔다.
이날 협약식은 조규일 진주시장과 박석진 KT 경남법인단장 등 6명이 참석해 진주의 온실가스 외부감축사업 등록 및 인증관리를 위한 상생협력을 위해 마련됐다.
온실가스 외부감축사업이란 기후변화 대응 사업의 일환으로 배출권거래제 할당대상업체 조직 외부의 온실가스 배출활동 등에서 국제적 기준에 부합하는 방식으로 온실가스를 감축, 흡수 또는 제거하는 사업이다.
또 배출권거래제란 온실가스 배출을 줄여야 할 의무가 있는 기업, 기관 등의 탄소배출권을 사고팔 수 있도록 허용하는 제도로, 진주시는 이번 협약을 통해 1억8000만원의 예산을 절약할 수 있다.
이번 협약으로 진주시는 재생에너지 보급사업, LED 가로등·보안등 설치사업, 친환경차 보급사업 등 온실가스 외부감축사업을 추진, KT 진주지사는 외부감축사업을 등록해 인증을 받도록 지원하는 역할을 하게 된다.
진주시는 재생에너지 보급사업을 지난 2013년 이후 1393개소, LED 가로등·보안등은 지난 2010년 이후 1만8927개소 설치, 친환경차는 지난 2018년 이후 2104대를 보급함으로써 6883tCO₂의 온실가스를 감축했다.
